Waste water still overflows outside causing serious pollution. |
Mr. Huynh Tan Bon, Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hoa Vang district, said that immediately after receiving feedback from the people, the District People's Committee directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with other units to inspect and take samples of treated wastewater for testing.
“Initial inspection confirmed that the people’s reflection was correct. These facilities were established a long time ago, the wastewater treatment system is old and no longer suitable,” Mr. Huynh Tan Bon informed.
Nearly 10,000m2 of rice fields are affected by wastewater from pig farms discharged into the environment. |
According to the People's Committee of Hoa Vang district, the concentrated pig farming area in Nam Son and Le Nam villages (Hoa Tien commune) was established in 2005, on land managed by the commune according to the planning of agricultural land. The land lease period is 5 years and can be extended if it expires.
However, due to not meeting general conditions, there are currently only 3 households operating on a medium scale, raising 400-1,200 pigs/household according to Clause 2, Article 21 of Decree 13/2020/ND-CP dated January 21, 2020 of the Government.
Previously, the People's Committee of Hoa Tien commune also required households to build closed barns, with biogas tanks and self-destructing settling ponds of sufficient capacity to treat livestock waste.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tran Duy Anh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Vang District, said that the people's complaints were well-founded and that pig farming causes pollution and bad odors, which are very difficult to avoid. However, taking samples of treated wastewater for testing is to determine the initial level of pollution.
At the same time, the District People's Committee assigned Hoa Tien commune to preside over and invite 3 livestock households (including households of Ngo Thi Chuc, Nguyen Dinh Tien Dung, Le Van Nac), the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to guide and request them to sign a commitment to comply with the provisions of law in livestock farming activities and environmental protection work.
In the long term, it is recommended that the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the People's Committee of Hoa Tien Commune review and require households to raise livestock in quantities appropriate to the existing infrastructure conditions. If households want to increase the scale of livestock farming, they must upgrade the wastewater treatment system to avoid environmental pollution.
"The district will direct units to regularly check the livestock conditions of facilities according to regulations. Any violations will be strictly handled," the Vice Chairman of Hoa Vang district directed.
