(Dan Tri) - After her mother passed away, Ms. Hong, despite being young, had to follow her father around to make a living. Tired of being away from home, she always longed to return to her maternal family but was "powerless".
Recently, the journey to find relatives of Ms. Tran Thi Anh Hong (59 years old, living in Lam Dong ) has attracted attention from the online community.
Specifically, in 1971, Ms. Hong’s father brought home a woman and a child (Ms. Hong’s half-sister) and announced that they would live together as a family. This shock caused her mother to suffer so much that she ended her own life.

After Ms. Hong's mother passed away, the other woman was so scared that she took her child and quietly left.
"My father took my mother back to her hometown in Long An for burial, then took my sister and I to Binh Tuy (now Binh Thuan ) to live. At that time, I was 6 years old, my sister was 4 years old, we followed our father everywhere, wherever he was, we were there.
Seeing that the two sisters were so young and pitiful, an aunt offered to adopt us. We lived with her for about a year and then moved to her house. Later, my father remarried and brought us to live with my stepmother," Ms. Hong recounted.
Mrs. Hong and her sisters lived uncomfortably with their stepmother, making them yearn even more to return to their maternal family. But no matter how much they longed, no one came to look for them. Mrs. Hong wanted to find a way to return to her maternal home many times, but the circumstances at that time did not allow it.
At the age of 15, she decided to return to Long An in the hope of finding her relatives, but to no avail. Only later, when her life was stable, was she able to continue her journey to find her biological family on her mother's side.
"Decades passed, and I kept wondering about my roots. When my family life was stable and my children had settled down, I was determined to find my biological family.
"I want my children and grandchildren to know about my roots, but I have searched everywhere without any information. Many times I am afraid that by the time I find out, my family may be gone, only the young people will be left. Will they recognize me?", Ms. Hong choked up.
The mystery was resolved after more than half a century
More than two months ago, Ms. Hong shared her story on a YouTube channel dedicated to helping find lost relatives. Not long after, she received good news when a person named Cuc contacted her and asked to connect.
During the conversation that lasted about half an hour, all the information between Mrs. Hong and her aunt matched. Both could not hide their emotions and were speechless when they met again after more than half a century apart.

"When I shared the story on social media to find my relatives, I intentionally hid the fact that my mother had committed suicide, wanting to see if anyone knew about this, because if they did, it would definitely be my family.
When I connected with Aunt Cuc, without even asking, she told me exactly about the circumstances of my mother's death. At that time, I was extremely moved, knowing for sure that this was my biological aunt, there could be no mistake," Ms. Hong choked up.
Nearly a month after that conversation, Ms. Hong’s family went to Ms. Cuc’s house to meet her in person. The woman was extremely surprised to learn that her maternal relatives still lived in Tan An city, Long An - the place where she had returned to look for her relatives.
Through the conversation, she learned that in her mother's generation, only aunt Cuc was the only living relative.
"It's lucky you found me in time. If it had been a few years later, no one would have recognized you," Mrs. Hong emotionally told her aunt.

As for Mrs. Cuc, she wiped away her tears and told her granddaughter about the old stories. Thanks to this reunion, Mrs. Hong was able to resolve all the questions that had been lingering for over 50 years.
"That year, when your mother passed away, the whole family knew the reason. Your grandfather was very angry with your father. He took your mother in for burial but did not accept your father as his son-in-law anymore.
At that time, the father and daughter wanted to leave one child behind and ask the grandparents to raise it, and take the other child with them, but the grandparents did not agree. The maternal grandfather insisted that the two children could not be separated, so the father and daughter took both of them away," the aunt recounted with tears.
Mrs. Cuc added: "I came to look for you once after your father had a new family, but I couldn't find you. Your grandmother also tried to look for you two many times but still had no news. Now that you're back, your grandparents are relieved."
