Ho Chi Minh City rises 10 places in national excellent student achievement rankings

According to the results of the national high school excellent student exam for the 2023-2024 school year just announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City is the second locality in terms of the number of first prizes, up 10 places compared to the ranking of achievements of the previous school year.

Accordingly, units under the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City achieved a total of 110 prizes in 11 subjects including: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography, English, French and Chinese.

The subject with the highest number of winners was English with 20 awards, followed by Informatics (17 awards), Chemistry (14 awards), Physics (13 awards)...

English is also the only subject in Ho Chi Minh City that has a candidate winning first prize, with four first prizes going to four students from Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (District 1). This result once again affirms the quality of foreign language teaching and learning at schools in the city.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City also won 19 second prizes, 39 third prizes and 48 consolation prizes.

According to the list of results just announced, in addition to the two units with a high number of prize-winning candidates, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (District 5) and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (District 1), some units also have many prize-winning candidates such as Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District), Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (Tan Binh District), Marie Curie High School (District 3), Nguyen Huu Huan High School (Thu Duc City)...

In addition, the unit under the Ho Chi Minh City National University has a total of 58 awards in 9 subjects including: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, History, Geography and English.

This year, the national excellent student selection exam organized by the Ministry of Education and Training took place on January 5 and 6. Nationwide, 3,359 out of 5,812 candidates took the exam (accounting for 55.79%), an increase from the 2,283 candidates who won prizes in the previous school year (accounting for 49.75%).

According to the newly issued exam regulations, in this year's national high school exam, the total number of awards (from encouragement and above) must not exceed 60% of the total number of candidates; in which the total number of first, second, and third prizes must not exceed 60% of the total number of awards, and the number of first prizes must not exceed 5% of the total number of awards.

The new point of this year's national high school exam is that in addition to issuing certificates to the winning students, the remaining students will also receive certificates of participation in the exam.

According to the plan, in March 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training will organize an exam to select high school students for national teams to compete in regional and international Olympics in 2024 in the subjects of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics.
