At the meeting, the Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Nguyen Thi Le, expressed her pleasure at the continuous positive development of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Finland since the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2024). In particular, the field of education stands out with cooperation programs and joint teaching partnerships between universities of the two countries.
“The Vietnamese student community in Finland is the second largest international student group in the country, with approximately over 2,500 students. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, the Vietnam-Finland International School has been established and operating for five years. This is the first international school in Southeast Asia to adopt the Finnish educational philosophy. In addition, the KONE Finnish Vocational Training Center has been operating effectively, contributing to bringing high-quality Finnish education closer to the future generation of Vietnam.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Le further shared that Ho Chi Minh City currently has 115 universities and colleges with over 600,000 students and nearly 20,000 individuals working in the field of science and technology. Ho Chi Minh City is coordinating with the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and international partners to train thousands of high-quality human resources in diverse fields, meeting the needs of sustainable development.
The focus is on advanced technology and service industries. In addition, startup and innovation centers such as the Ho Chi Minh City Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (SIHUB) have been implementing numerous programs to support startups, innovation, and the development of high-tech businesses.
"These programs aim to build a dynamic learning and research environment, while promoting technology application and sustainable development, contributing to the common goal of building Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city and a leading center for innovative startups in the region," the comrade informed.
In order to develop human resources to international standards, aiming towards building a smart city and international integration, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council stated that the city is focusing on innovation and improvement in education at all levels. Meanwhile, Finland is known as one of the leading countries in terms of educational quality as well as developing the entrepreneurship and innovation movement.
He expressed his desire to promote cooperation between agencies and departments in Ho Chi Minh City in developing educational innovation strategies, joint training programs, and exchanges for students and teachers…
During the meeting, the Director of International Relations of the Finnish National Education Agency introduced the delegation to the mission and functions of the Finnish National Education Agency; educational policies and methods; and the role of teachers in the teaching process and textbook compilation; and digital transformation in education in Finland. According to Mr. Samu Seitsalo, Finland is currently focusing on researching digital transformation in education and is ready to share its experiences with Vietnam.
Mr. Samu Seitsalo stated that Finland's population is aging, and therefore the government always hopes that young people will stay in Finland to live and work after completing their studies.
"Currently, the Finnish government has a policy to promote talent, encourage those with work experience and high expertise, and attract students to stay. In addition, there is a system to support students in finding employment, and after graduation, students have the right to stay in Finland for two years to look for work," said the Director of International Relations at the Finnish National Agency for Education, affirming that Finland identifies Vietnam as one of four key countries to attract talent to the country.
In response to the proposals from the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Mr. Samu Seitsalo also affirmed that he would further promote cooperation, support, and experience sharing with Vietnam in the field of education.
