On September 13 (local time), continuing the visit and work in Finland, the delegation of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, had a working session with the Finnish National Education Agency.
Mr. Samu Seitsalo, Director of International Relations, Finnish National Agency for Education, received the delegation.
At the meeting, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le was pleased that the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Finland have continuously developed positively since the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973 - 2024). In particular, the education sector stands out with cooperation programs and teaching links between universities of the two countries.
“The Vietnamese student community in Finland is the second largest group of international students in the country, with more than 2,500 students. This reflects the interest of young Vietnamese people in Finland’s advanced education system, contributing to promoting the role of a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Le.
In Ho Chi Minh City alone, the Vietnam - Finland International School has been established in the city and has been operating for 5 years. This is the first international school in Southeast Asia to apply the Finnish educational philosophy. In addition, the KONE Finnish Vocational Training Center has been operating effectively, contributing to bringing high-quality Finnish education closer to the future generation of Vietnam.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Le added that in Ho Chi Minh City, there are currently 115 universities and colleges with more than 600,000 students and nearly 20,000 individuals working in the field of science and technology. Ho Chi Minh City is coordinating with Ho Chi Minh City National University and international partners to train thousands of high-quality human resources in a variety of professions, meeting the needs of sustainable development.
The focus is on advanced technology and service industries. In addition, startup and innovation centers such as the Ho Chi Minh City Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (SIHUB) have been implementing many programs to support startups, innovation and high-tech enterprise development.
“These programs aim to build a dynamic learning and research environment, while promoting technology application and sustainable development, contributing to the common goal of building Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city and leading creative startup center in the region,” he informed.
In order to develop human resources according to international standards, towards building a smart city and international integration, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council said that the city is focusing on innovation and improvement of education at all levels. Meanwhile, Finland is known as one of the leading countries in terms of education quality as well as developing the startup and innovation movement.
He hopes to promote cooperation between the agency and departments and branches of Ho Chi Minh City in building educational innovation strategies, joint training programs, and exchanges for students and teachers...
At the meeting, the Director of International Relations, Finnish National Agency for Education introduced to the delegation the tasks and functions of the Finnish National Agency for Education; educational policies and methods; and the role of teachers in the teaching process and textbook compilation; digital transformation in education in Finland. According to Mr. Samu Seitsalo, Finland is currently focusing on researching digital transformation in education; and is ready to share with Vietnam.
Mr. Samu Seitsalo expressed that Finland's population is aging, so the Government always wants young people to stay in Finland to live and work after finishing their studies.
"Currently, the Finnish Government has a policy to promote talent, encourage those with work experience, high expertise and attract students to stay. In addition, there is a system to support students in finding jobs and after 2 years of graduation, students have the right to stay in Finland to find a job," said the Director of International Relations, Finnish National Agency for Education, and affirmed that Finland identifies Vietnam as one of four key countries to attract talent to the country.
In response to the proposals of the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Mr. Samu Seitsalo also affirmed that he will further promote cooperation, support and experience sharing activities with Vietnam in the field of education.
