On the morning of June 21, comrade Phan Van Mai, member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee received Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Farani.

At the meeting, Comrade Phan Van Mai affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City always accompanies the development cooperation in the Vietnam - Brazil relationship. Comrade Phan Van Mai said that as an economic locomotive, Ho Chi Minh City is very aware of developing foreign relations, including relations with Brazil, a large economy in the world and an important member of the BRICS Group (including Brazil, India, China and South Africa).
Comrade Phan Van Mai expressed his wish to develop relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Brazil in politics, economy, energy, people-to-people exchange and cooperation between localities through specific programs and projects; wished to welcome high-ranking delegations as well as Brazilian business delegations to visit and invest in Ho Chi Minh City, soon increasing the trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and Brazil from 1.3 billion USD to 3 billion USD.
Regarding people-to-people exchanges, comrade Phan Van Mai suggested that Ho Chi Minh City and Brazil have exchange and cooperation programs in music, cuisine, cinema, sports, etc.
Comrade Phan Van Mai welcomed the proposal of Brazilian Ambassador Marco Farani to expand cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Sao Paulo City, assigning the Department of Foreign Affairs to plan the implementation. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that the city needs to learn from Brazil's experience in areas of strength, including renewable energy production, in line with the city's green transformation program.
Brazilian Ambassador Marco Farani thanked the Ho Chi Minh City leadership for taking the time to welcome the delegation during the Ambassador's first visit to the city.
Ambassador Marco Farani said that Brazil values its relationship with Vietnam and wishes to upgrade the relationship from Comprehensive Partnership to Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in 2024.
According to Ambassador Marco Farani, as part of these commemorative activities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will officially visit Brazil in September and then Brazilian President Lula da Silva will officially visit Vietnam.
The Brazilian Ambassador affirmed that Brazil is ready to cooperate and share experiences with Vietnam in producing ethanol fuel from sugarcane and considers renewable energy cooperation as one of the pillars in the bilateral relationship. In addition, Ambassador Marco Farani agreed to expand people-to-people exchanges and strengthen local cooperation.
Ambassador Marco Farani said that through the Brazilian Football Confederation, he hopes to bring the Brazilian national football team to Vietnam for friendly matches from now until before the 2026 World Cup.
