Ho Chi Minh City currently has two specialized schools, Tran Dai Nghia and Le Hong Phong, and four high schools recruiting specialized classes: Mac Dinh Chi, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Nguyen Huu Huan and Gia Dinh.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City will enroll 1,995 specialized students in 6 schools. This is also the last year the city will enroll specialized students in 4 general high schools. From the 2025-2026 school year, specialized classes will only be available in specialized schools.

To be admitted to specialized or integrated grade 10, students still have to take three general exams including math, literature, and foreign language. The admission score is the total score of these three exams, plus the specialized or integrated subject score multiplied by two, the total is 50.
This year, the number of candidates registering for the specialized exam is more than 8,200 students, an increase of 1,532 compared to last year. The increase in the number of candidates has caused the competition ratio to increase by about 0.1 to 0.6 in 4 out of 6 schools. Of which, grade 10 at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted has the highest ratio at 1/5.5. Next are Gia Dinh High School and Mac Dinh Chi High School, respectively at 1/2.4 and 1/2.3.
The integrated grade 10 block has 735 quotas, more than 1,230 candidates registered, an increase of 91 compared to last year, the average competition level is 1/1.7.
The valedictorian of the specialized exam was Phan Hoan Kim Phuc, student 9A13, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City, with a total admission score of 47.25. Specifically, the male student had a score of 10 in math, 10 in English, 7.75 in literature, and a specialized score (multiplied by a coefficient of 1) of 9.75.
In recent years (2020-2023, no exam in 2021), Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted has often been at the top in terms of admission scores. Last year, the admission score for the 10th grade of the school was 38.7 (maximum score is 50), the highest score since 2020. Most of the school's other specialized classes have scores above 30.
The lowest score is for the specialized physics classes of Nguyen Huu Huan, Mac Dinh Chi and Nguyen Thuong Hien High Schools, some years only 24-25/50 points are required. Students who achieve an average of 5 points per subject can be admitted.
Overall, the benchmark scores for specialized English and literature classes are always stable and among the highest in schools with 32-37 points, depending on the school.
