Ho Chi Minh City strengthens ensuring price stability of goods during Tet At Ty 2025

From now until the end of the year, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City will continue to focus on stabilizing commodity prices and controlling inflation during the 2025 Lunar New Year.

In preparation for the Lunar New Year 2025, when people's shopping demand is expected to increase sharply, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City and leading enterprises in the retail and food sectors have urgently implemented plans to stabilize prices and stimulate consumption, in order to ensure an abundant, stable supply of goods at reasonable prices for people.

In the context of adverse weather, consecutive storms and floods affecting agricultural production areas, these efforts are expected to contribute to helping people celebrate Tet in peace and prosperity.

As the leading unit in the market stabilization program in Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon Co.op has prepared earlier than usual this year. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Deputy General Director of Saigon Co.op, said : “In the face of the severe impact of storms No. 3 and No. 6, affecting the supply of agricultural products, we have closely coordinated with production areas and farmers to provide financial support and purchase products. This helps maintain a stable supply of essential goods, ensuring reasonable prices to serve the needs of the people” .

In parallel, Saigon Co.op has also implemented the “Green Credit Responsibility” program, with the goal of providing green, clean, and safe products. The company has increased investment in the supply chain, focusing on stockpiling items such as fresh food and necessities, to best serve consumer demand during Tet. According to Mr. Thang, the amount of goods stocked for essential goods this year will increase by 30-40% compared to normal days. Saigon Co.op will also organize mobile shipments to remote areas and areas heavily damaged by natural disasters, ensuring that people across the country have a warm Tet holiday with their families.

Regarding the fresh food industry, Vissan has planned to prepare Tet goods since June. However, due to the impact of Typhoon Yagi, the supply of pork in the Northern region has been seriously affected. According to Mr. Phan Van Dung, Deputy General Director of Vissan, the company is facing the challenge of high input prices but is still committed to not adjusting selling prices. "As one of the units participating in the price stabilization program, we accept to share profits to keep prices from increasing, helping consumers easily access fresh food during Tet," said Mr. Dung.

Ms. Pham Thi Huan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Ba Huan Food Joint Stock Company, said that the company has participated in the price stabilization program for more than 20 years and is actively preparing goods for Tet 2025. "Although current purchasing power is still slow due to the difficult economic situation, Ba Huan still maintains the plan to increase supply by about 10% compared to last year to ensure that eggs, meat and other food items are always available, meeting the high demand of people during Tet , " Ms. Huan shared.

In the context of erratic weather, many areas are flooded, affecting production, food supply may fluctuate. However, Ba Huan is committed to maintaining stable prices, while closely coordinating with the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City to participate in consumer support programs, creating conditions for people to celebrate Tet happily.

Meanwhile, Central Retail Vietnam has prioritized cooperation with suppliers that meet OCOP standards of 4 stars or higher and have sustainable production processes. Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Communications Director of the group, said: “Consumers today increasingly prefer green, clean products with safe production processes. We actively support partners to improve product quality and environmentally friendly packaging, in order to bring the best shopping experiences to customers, attracting them to return during the Tet season” .

According to Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, the Department held a conference to connect supply and demand at the end of September to prepare a sufficient amount of goods for Tet. Mr. Vu said: "In the past year, the city only adjusted prices twice according to the market stabilization program, with very small adjustments, ensuring stability for the consumer price index" . The Department of Industry and Trade hopes that businesses participating in the program will continue to accompany people to help them access quality goods at reasonable prices, especially during difficult times due to natural disasters.

From now until Tet, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to closely monitor and evaluate the supply and market demand, especially essential goods such as rice, meat, poultry eggs, vegetables and fruits, and products with high demand during Tet such as confectionery, soft drinks, etc. The Department will proactively develop plans and propose solutions to competent authorities to ensure supply-demand balance, stabilize the market, and prevent the risk of shortages or supply disruptions causing unusual price fluctuations.

At the same time, the Department closely coordinates with the local distribution system, encouraging units to apply preferential discount rates.
