On the afternoon of November 10, in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, received Mr. Surya Deva, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to development, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, Mr. Vo Van Hoan affirmed that Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular always respect, protect and promote human rights; always put people at the center, as the subject and driving force of the development process.

Ho Chi Minh City always aims for sustainable development; pays attention to gender development issues, the role of women in society; implements multidimensional poverty reduction policies; respects, ensures, and creates conditions for the development of religious freedom, ethnic minorities, and disadvantaged communities living in the city...

Mr. Vo Van Hoan affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City always determines that economic development goes hand in hand with solving social problems and protecting the environment. The city's planning, plans and development programs always ensure the above three factors, demonstrated through activities to improve people's living standards, towards a green growth economy and sustainable development. This is also a practical activity of Ho Chi Minh City contributing to the implementation of Vietnam's commitment to reduce net emissions to zero by 2050.

Expressing his good impressions of the vibrant development of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Surya Deva informed that the purpose of his working trip to Vietnam and its localities was to learn about Vietnam's results, challenges, priorities, and cooperation needs in the field of development rights.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur highly appreciated the activities that the City has carried out in the field of the right to development, especially the methods and results of the multidimensional poverty reduction program that Ho Chi Minh City has implemented.

Recognizing and appreciating the frank approach and sharing of issues by the leaders and relevant departments of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Surya Deva said that the effective ways of doing things in Ho Chi Minh City are good lessons, contributing to promoting the process of sharing experiences and learning from each other among cities and localities around the world in implementing activities in the field of development rights.
