Ho Chi Minh City will decide to recruit additional 10th grade students earlier than expected.

"Based on the results of receiving 10th grade admission applications at schools, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will decide on additional enrollment for 10th grade in 2024, expected after July 20," said Mr. Nguyen Vo Dang Khoa - Deputy Head of Examination and Education Quality Assessment Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training - when speaking to the press on July 18.

90% of schools achieved 100% of students confirming online enrollment

According to Mr. Khoa, at this time, high schools are receiving 10th grade admission applications from students who have confirmed their admission online.

After completing the paper application process, schools will accurately count the number of missing quotas. Based on that, the department will announce additional enrollment for grade 10.

"Currently, 90% of high schools have achieved 100% of students confirming online enrollment. However, this is only the online enrollment result, the reality may be different because students' wishes are very flexible.

Many students have confirmed their enrollment online but have moved to other provinces to study grade 10 or study abroad.

Therefore, to ensure the rights of candidates, the department will wait for schools to complete receiving paper applications.

Another missing target is to create an additional opportunity for students to study at public schools through the 10th grade supplementary entrance exam.

The admissions advisory board of high schools has been calling each parent whose child was admitted to grade 10 to confirm the admission," Mr. Khoa affirmed.

It is known that according to the plan, high schools will not receive 10th grade admission applications until July 31.

Additional recruitment for specialized 10th grade: Students must take an entrance exam

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, noted that the principle of additional recruitment for grade 10 is only for high schools that are short of enrollment quotas.

"The candidates are students who have not passed any of their 3 wishes in the first round; students must have an entrance exam score equal to or higher than the standard score of the 3rd wish of the additional recruiting school.

The Department will consider from high to low until the quota is filled, not all students who apply for additional recruitment will be admitted.

In case students have applied to other schools, if they pass the public 10th grade supplementary exam, they can withdraw their application" - Mr. Hieu informed.

Regarding the recruitment of additional specialized 10th graders, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that the department will only conduct this at the end of the first semester of grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year. Students must take the additional recruitment exam for specialized 10th graders according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will enroll more than 77,000 students in grade 10 public high schools. This is the second year that Ho Chi Minh City has recruited additional students for grade 10, in order to create more opportunities for students to study in public schools.

In the 2023-2024 school year, through the supplementary 10th grade entrance exam, 1,014 more students were admitted to public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City.

Previously, the department also announced the recruitment of 166 additional integrated grade 10 positions at 9 public high schools that organize this type of teaching.
