"The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will decide on additional enrollment for grade 10 after July 31, 2024. That is, after high schools have finished accepting applications for grade 10 admission for the 2024-2025 school year," said Mr. Le Hoai Nam, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, at a meeting on grade 10 enrollment on the afternoon of July 3.
Fail all 3 wishes to be eligible for additional recruitment
According to the deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, after July 31, if schools still do not meet their enrollment targets, the Department will develop a plan to recruit additional students to public grade 10. Students who do not pass any of their three wishes will be eligible to participate in the second round of additional enrollment.
"The additional recruitment is to help students with high scores (but fail all 3 wishes) have the opportunity to study at public schools. At the same time, this also creates conditions for high schools with insufficient quotas to be able to recruit enough 10th grade students," Mr. Le Hoai Nam stated.
In particular, this year, candidates admitted to public grade 10 schools need to confirm their online application. This is a special change by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year.
Accordingly, candidates admitted to public grade 10 will confirm their application for admission to grade 10 from July 4 to 12, 2024.
Candidates will confirm online at: https://ts10.hcm.edu.vn (go to "Look up 10th grade entrance exam results" and log in). If students do not confirm within the above time, it will be considered as refusing the right to be admitted.
From July 17 to 31, 2024, high schools will organize direct application reception for candidates who have confirmed online enrollment.
Must the 10th grade entrance exam score be equal to the third choice standard score?
Mr. Nguyen Vo Dang Khoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Examination and Education Quality Assessment, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said: "When students register for the entrance exam to grade 10, the Department has conducted a survey on registration of elective subjects for high schools. Therefore, when schools receive the list of admitted students, they will receive information on students registering for groups of elective subjects. Schools will have more advantages in arranging elective subjects according to the 2018 general education program".
Also according to Mr. Khoa, after this year's 10th grade entrance exam, the department will count the number of students taking the exam, the number of students passing the exam, and the number of students applying for admission to public 10th grade at each secondary school.
These statistics will support units in the process of reducing the rate of virtual admission, and at the same time limit registration for grade 10 at schools far from the place of residence.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, in the 2023 10th grade enrollment season, Ho Chi Minh City will conduct additional 10th grade enrollment for high schools that have not yet met their enrollment quota.
Students who fail all 3 wishes can participate in additional recruitment with the condition that the entrance exam score must be equal to or greater than the admission score of the 3rd wish of the high school.
As a result, schools recruited 1,014 out of nearly 4,000 missing quotas.
