Ho Chi Minh City signed to establish the Center for the 4th Industrial Revolution

On January 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs announced that on January 16, at the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos (Switzerland), Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai signed a cooperation agreement to establish the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) in Ho Chi Minh City with the WEF. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Professor Klaus Schwab - founder and Chairman of the WEF.

C4IR HCMC is expected to come into operation from June this year, located in the HCMC High-Tech Park, focusing on research cooperation activities, policy proposals, technology application and transfer... In particular, the center has the function of mobilizing resources for areas that HCMC and the whole country are interested in such as green growth, smart cities, artificial intelligence... C4IR is considered one of the important economic development projects, playing the role of a driving force for the development of the City in the coming time.

The signing ceremony to establish the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) between Ho Chi Minh City and WEF was witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Professor Klaus Schwab - Chairman of WEF.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai assessed that the establishment of C4IR in Ho Chi Minh City is significant not only for the important development goals of the City, but also for the country. In addition, the City can participate in WEF's global initiatives, thereby establishing a comprehensive ecosystem to promote new growth drivers, attract investment, and enhance national competitiveness. Mr. Phan Van Mai promised: "The Center will become a reliable and effective address to promote cooperation between experts, researchers, and the Vietnamese and international business community".

Mr. Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director of WEF, commented that the establishment of C4IR in Ho Chi Minh City is an important milestone in the partnership between WEF and Vietnam, which can support Vietnam in achieving its aspirations for innovation, creativity and growth through enhancing international cooperation and connecting with many stakeholders.

This is the second C4IR to be established in Southeast Asia, following C4IR Malaysia in 2023. C4IR aims to become a centre of expertise in co-designing policies and piloting forward-thinking policy frameworks that facilitate the development and adoption of technology regionally and globally.

This is also a platform for cooperation between many stakeholders, connecting the public and private sectors to maximize the benefits of technology for society, while minimizing risks, improving and accelerating the deployment of emerging technologies. The World Economic Forum launched the first C4IR in San Francisco (USA) in 2017, followed by C4IR in Japan and India... According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs, to date, the C4IR network exists in many countries around the world such as: USA, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Colombia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, India, Turkey, United Arab Emirates.
