According to the proposal on the development of parks and public trees that the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City recently sent to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the city is facing difficulties in developing parks and public trees. The reason is that there is not enough funding to implement park construction projects according to the proposed plan.

The Department of Construction proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee build 6 more large-scale parks.

The Department of Construction proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee build 6 more large-scale parks.

Accordingly, in the 2020-2025 period, Ho Chi Minh City sets a target of increasing 150 hectares of public park land, equivalent to 0.65 square meters per person (estimated population size of 10 million people). To complete this target, Ho Chi Minh City needs to implement at least 54 projects, with a total estimated investment cost of VND9,011 billion.

However, to date, only 8 projects have been completed and submitted for investment proposals. Of which, the People's Council and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City have approved the investment policy for 4 projects with a total cost of 1,590 billion VND, including: Infrastructure investment project, schools, green parks within the Binh Hung Hoa cemetery (Binh Tan district), Thanh Loc park construction project (Thanh Loc ward, district 12), Tan Chanh Hiep park construction project (Tan Chanh Hiep fish pond area) in Tan Chanh Hiep ward, district 12, Tan Thanh Tay park construction project (area 2) in Tan Thanh Tay commune, Cu Chi district.

Previously, the Resolution of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, set a target of no less than 1m2/person of green space by 2030. According to the Department of Construction, to achieve the above target, Ho Chi Minh City must increase at least 450 hectares of park land. Therefore, the city needs to soon allocate capital to implement 50 public park projects in the period 2020 - 2025 with a budget of 7,421 billion VND.

Regarding the development of public parks and trees, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction proposed to build 6 more large-scale parks from public land or vacant land, arranged in the following order of priority: Saigon Safari Park - Cu Chi district with a scale of 485 hectares (97% compensated with a scale of about 432.35 hectares); Ecological Forest Park, Thu Duc City with a scale of 128 hectares (public land); Thu Thiem Square Park - Thu Duc City with a scale of 20 hectares (public land); Go Cat Park - Binh Tan district with a scale of 13 hectares; Green park belonging to the Green Park - Sports Area, resettlement area of Ward 12, Binh Thanh district with a scale of 3.8 hectares; Thanh Xuan Green Park - District 12 with a scale of 150 hectares.
