Graduation project with national spirit
Le Cao Hoang Linh, 22 years old, a student majoring in Fashion Design, impressed with a collection called "Giang Sang" which is also her university graduation project.
Inspired by the lacquer works of the late painter Pham Hau, Hoang Linh created a collection of 26 drawings, of which 5 were completed by Linh into complete costumes.
"Lacquer paintings are the inspiration for my collection because of the meticulousness and careful calculation in each work, requiring the artist to have careful preparation from the idea stage, sketching the layout to choosing colors and polishing techniques," Hoang Linh shared.
Hoang Linh completed the collection in 4 months, of which more than 2 months were spent on the idea stage.
"The paintings of artist Pham Hau are a big challenge, each painting contains the artist's own style and personality. Therefore, how to respect the work, retain the author's style, and put your own personality into each design is an extremely difficult problem," Linh added.

During the process, Hoang Linh received enthusiastic support and advice from the late artist's family. When the collection was launched, the late artist's family reposted the collection's images on the late artist's fanpage with compliments for this young designer.
With a love for Vietnamese cultural values, Hoang Linh hopes that young people will understand more about national values, contributing to preserving and conserving those cultures.
In each of her designs, Hoang Linh puts these elements in particular with the desire to help young people approach Lacquer art, an elaborate and unique line of Vietnamese paintings.
With these messages, the young designer has also successfully become the owner of the Sustainable Collection Award at the Vietnam Next-Gen Fashion Professional Fashion Program.
Entered university with a low starting point
Besides the impressive graduation project, Le Cao Hoang Linh also excelled in becoming the valedictorian of the entire course with a GPA of 3.88/4.0.
However, Linh's starting point was quite difficult. In 2020, the entrance score for Fashion Design was in the top 2 highest entrance scores of the University of Architecture. Therefore, with an aptitude score of only 6.5, Hoang Linh lost the opportunity to be admitted to the major when Linh's total exam score did not meet the admission threshold by the high school graduation exam method.
Thanks to her second prize in the city-level Literature competition, Linh "slipped through a narrow door" when she was admitted to the school through the selection method for candidates who won prizes in provincial-level competitions for excellent students or higher.
For Linh, starting from a low point is also a motivation for her. It is the determination to strive and never give up that helps Linh achieve today.
MSc. Dinh Tran Duy Khang, head of the Fashion Design Department at the University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that in the early days of studying, Hoang Linh was not an outstanding student. The designs in her second-year projects were still quite "naive and immature".
"However, you are very hard-working and determined, always trying to learn, improve and start to impress teachers with more maturity in your designs. Congratulations Hoang Linh for achieving results worthy of your efforts throughout your studies at school," said Mr. Khang.

Not only did Hoang Linh get high scores in her major subjects, but she also got excellent scores in her general subjects.
The young designer shares his secret to learning, which lies in a life motto: always try your best at everything, whether you like it or not.
"Especially, don't be afraid to hide your ignorance to learn from your friends. For me, each person has their own knowledge, there will be things that I'm good at and things that I don't know. That's why I proactively learn from my friends, gradually accumulating to improve myself more and more," Linh said.
Besides, knowing how to arrange and plan work properly is also an important factor.
During her 4 years of studying at the University of Architecture, Hoang Linh also worked part-time to pay for her tuition as well as the costs of her projects and collections. Thanks to her ability to plan and manage her time scientifically, Hoang Linh was able to both study and work to support her life and help her parents.
Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - mother of the new valedictorian Hoang Linh - confided her feelings: "Even though my uncle and aunt intended for Hoang Linh to study another major, when she confided in me about the career she loved, my uncle and aunt still supported her wholeheartedly. From the beginning, I just hoped that Hoang Linh would keep up with her friends and be happy with her passion."
In the future, Linh said she will continue to improve her knowledge and experience to fulfill her dream of owning her own fashion brand.
