* Previously, the Swiss government announced on June 14 that 100 delegations had confirmed their attendance at the Ukraine Peace Conference from June 15-16 near the city of Lucerne.
According to the statement, the delegations included representatives of 92 countries and eight organizations.
* Also on June 14, the US Secretary of Defense rejected the Russian President's peace proposal. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was "not in a position" to make demands on Ukraine to end the conflict, while praising Kiev's military successes in dealing with Moscow's large-scale military campaign.
Speaking to reporters at NATO headquarters in Brussels, the Pentagon leader stated: "He (President Putin) is in no position to dictate what Ukraine must do to achieve peace."
* Meanwhile, the United Nations (UN) has called for the military conflict in Ukraine not to become a “new normal”. On June 14, the UN Permanent and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown called for the current dire conditions of the Ukrainian people not to be “normalized” amid the escalating conflict.
Speaking to reporters in Geneva, Switzerland, ahead of the Ukraine peace conference, Denise Brown said Russian forces have increased the number of attacks on Ukraine's Kharkiv region, causing casualties and destroying vital infrastructure in the past two months. The UN official urged not to consider this situation as the "new normal".
According to UN sources, the Russian army launched a new offensive campaign on Kharkov from May 10, capturing the town of Vovchansk and increasing air strikes on Kharkov, Ukraine's second largest urban center.
On June 14, UN spokesman Farhan Haq said that the world's largest multilateral organization wants a peaceful solution based on the UN Charter, relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and in accordance with international law for the Ukraine issue.
Speaking at a press conference the same day when asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin's new peace proposal, spokesman Farhan Haq stated: "What we want to see in Ukraine is a peace based on the UN Charter, relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and compliance with international law."
Earlier in the day, President Putin announced that Russia would immediately cease fire and be ready for negotiations with Ukraine after Kiev withdrew its troops from the territory of the new Russian regions. Other conditions for negotiations include Ukraine formally abandoning its plans to join NATO, declaring neutrality, non-alignment and denuclearization. The Ukrainian President's office has rejected this peace proposal.
