The report, adopted earlier this week, said Türkiye’s accession process to the 27-member bloc could not continue under current circumstances and called on the EU to seek “a parallel and realistic framework” for its relationship with Ankara.

Türkiye has been an official candidate to join the EU for 24 years, but accession talks have stalled in recent years due to the bloc's concerns about human rights violations and respect for the rule of law.

“The EU is trying to separate from Türkiye,” Erdogan told reporters ahead of his trip to the United States. “We will assess these developments and, if necessary, we are ready to separate from the EU.”

Türkiye's Foreign Ministry said earlier this week that the European Parliament's report contained baseless accusations and biases, and took a "shallow and visionless" approach to its relations with the EU.
