Russian President Vladimir Putin said that comments made during the tense US election campaign should not be taken seriously.
According to RT news agency, this is President Putin's statement about former US President Donald Trump saying that he had threatened to attack Moscow if Russia attacked Ukraine. Speaking at a press conference after the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan on October 24, when asked if Trump's statements in a recent interview were true, President Putin said the idea of trying to threaten Russia would be counterproductive. "I don't remember having such a conversation with Mr. Trump. The US presidential campaign is at a tense stage, I think you shouldn't take anyone's statements too seriously," Mr. Putin said. Referring to Trump's threat to attack, President Putin said "threatening Russia is pointless, because this only makes us more bold." Earlier this week, sharing with the Wall Street Journal, Mr. Trump mentioned a conversation he reportedly had with Mr. Putin when he was US President. According to Mr. Trump, he told President Putin that if Russia "attacks Ukraine", the US will "make you feel very bad and right in the middle of Moscow". Republican presidential candidate Trump has repeatedly stated that the Russia-Ukraine conflict will not happen if he remains in office after 2020. He also said that he will find a way to end the conflict in Ukraine within days, after he is re-elected.Vietnamnet.vn
