Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially submitted all the necessary documents to the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) to run for re-election as the country's leader in 2024.

The above information was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on December 18.

President Putin is running as an independent candidate. According to Russian presidential election law, Putin must have 500 registered voters supporting his campaign. Putin's campaign team met on December 16, and those who attended unanimously supported Putin.

The dossier submitted to the CEC includes the application for candidacy, personal data of the candidate and all participants, meeting agenda, list of group members, declaration of consent of the candidate to run for election and some other documents.

On December 17, the 21st Congress of the United Russia Party also unanimously supported incumbent President Putin's candidacy in the 2024 presidential election.

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Putin thanked the ruling United Russia party and said that this support was very important to him.

The Kremlin leader also set the task of improving the efficiency of power bodies at all levels, stressing that the current situation requires unity and readiness to respond to the most difficult challenges.

He affirmed that competition, diverse ideas and open discussion of problems and ways to solve them are the guarantee for national development.

Referring to political tasks, President Putin instructed to ensure Russia's freedom and security to develop its economy, society, research and technical potential for the benefit of its people and the well-being of millions of families.

Previously, on December 8, President Putin announced his intention to run for re-election in March next year. His current presidential term will end on May 7, 2024.

The Federation Council (Upper House) of Russia has set the election of the President of the Russian Federation to take place in three days, from March 15-17, 2024.
