Previously, on June 28, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced and awarded Decision No. 1536/QD-BVHTTDL stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration and personnel decisions for the leadership of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration.
Pursuant to the Decisions of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh was appointed as Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism; Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Mr. Pham Van Thuy, and Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc were appointed as Deputy Directors of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. The Decisions take effect from July 1, 2023.
According to Decision 1536/QD-BVHTTDL dated June 15, 2023, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is an administrative organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, performing the function of advising and assisting the Minister in State management of tourism and organizing the enforcement of tourism laws nationwide, and managing public services on tourism in accordance with the provisions of law.
Vietnam National Tourism Administration has legal status, a seal with the national emblem and headquarters in Hanoi, its English name is Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
According to the new organizational structure, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration will have a director and deputy directors; 7 specialized and professional departments and 2 public service units. Specifically, there will be no more department heads and deputy department heads and will be replaced by department heads and deputy department heads for departments such as the Travel Management Department, the Tourist Accommodation Management Department, the Tourism Promotion Management Department, etc.
Regarding transitional regulations, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will inherit the tasks and powers of the General Department of Tourism according to regulations.
According to the report of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the country currently has 3,423 international travel businesses (an increase of 1,008 businesses compared to the same period in 2022); 34,874 tour guides have been granted cards (an increase of 4,037 tour guides compared to the same period in 2022), including 20,387 international tour guides, 12,963 domestic tour guides, and 1,524 on-site tour guides. Regarding tourist accommodation facilities, the country has 235 5-star tourist accommodation facilities with 77,895 rooms; 354 4-star tourist accommodation facilities with 47,502 rooms.
Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has gone through many stages of development, its predecessor was Vietnam Tourism Company, established on July 9, 1960. In 1978, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism was established, under the Government Council; in 1991, it merged into the Ministry of Trade and Tourism. However, in 1992, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism became an agency directly under the Government and from 2007 to present, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism merged into the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
