General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong receives Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

On the afternoon of August 28, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from August 27-29, 2023.

At the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the Singaporean high-ranking delegation to visit Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1973 - 2023) and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership. The General Secretary said that the visit is an important milestone in the development of the relationship between the two countries.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recalled the good memories, the warm and warm welcome from the Government during his previous visit to Singapore; expressed his impression of Singapore's development into a prosperous and prestigious country in the international arena. The General Secretary also expressed his joy at the development of bilateral relations, affirming the importance of strengthening relations with Singapore, a neighboring country with an important position in the region and the world, and with development experience in many fields.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed his pleasure in returning to Vietnam and sincerely thanked General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for the warm welcome. The Prime Minister emphasized that the relationship between the two countries has developed strongly, deeply and expanded into many new areas. Singapore attaches importance to continuing to promote relations with Vietnam.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong informed the General Secretary of the results of his discussions with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Vietnamese leaders; agreed with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's proposals on cooperation, considering them important strategic orientations for bilateral cooperation in the coming time. The Prime Minister expressed his wish to strengthen coordination to contribute to consolidating peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world; reaffirmed the common stance on maintaining peace in the East Sea, respecting the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and soon reaching an effective and substantive Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

The two leaders agreed to increase the exchange of experiences in improving the capacity and position of the ruling party, including discussions on party building, policy making, and cadre training; enhance human resource training for Vietnam, coordinate more effectively at regional and international forums; and increase high-level meetings and exchanges between sectors and levels.
