General Secretary and President calls on overseas Vietnamese to continue contributing to the country

The General Secretary and President affirmed that the Fatherland always opens its arms to welcome the valuable contributions of the people, thereby building a prosperous Vietnam of all Vietnamese blood.

On the afternoon of August 23, at the Presidential Palace, General Secretary and President To Lam received a delegation of outstanding overseas Vietnamese on the occasion of returning home to attend the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world and the Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in 2024.

Also attending the meeting were comrade Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission; Party Central Committee members Bui Thanh Son (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Mai Van Chinh (Head of the Party Central Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission), Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee); representatives of the Office of the President, the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, and 60 outstanding overseas Vietnamese, representing more than 400 overseas Vietnamese delegates from 42 countries and territories.

At the meeting, representatives of overseas Vietnamese expressed their honor and gratitude to the General Secretary and President for taking the time to receive the delegation, demonstrating the attention of the Party, State and the General Secretary and President personally to overseas Vietnamese.

Representatives of overseas Vietnamese also expressed opinions, assessments, comments, recommendations, and proposals on a number of issues related to our overseas Vietnamese.

Reporting to the General Secretary and President on the results of the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said that this is a very important event, taking place at a key time when our entire nation is making efforts and accelerating the implementation of the tasks stated in the Resolution of the 8th National Party Congress; at the same time, this is also the 20th anniversary of the implementation of Resolution 36-NQ/TW of the Politburo on work with overseas Vietnamese.

Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Overseas Vietnamese Associations always receive special attention and affection from leaders of the Party, State, ministries, sectors, localities and people in the country as well as the overseas Vietnamese community.

Many proposals and policy recommendations from overseas Vietnamese have been recognized by domestic authorities, transformed into policies and legal regulations, and highly appreciated by the people.

At the reception, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary and President To Lam warmly welcomed the delegates, distinguished guests and all the people present at the meeting; at the same time, sent sincere greetings, warm feelings and best wishes to the delegates attending the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world as well as to the beloved children of the Fatherland who are living, working and studying abroad.

Recalling the words of beloved Uncle Ho: “The country needs the cooperation of all Vietnamese people, whether at home or abroad. Overseas Vietnamese, please join hands to build a strong and prosperous Vietnam, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers,” the General Secretary and President emphasized that for the country and people of Vietnam, the overseas Vietnamese community is always an inseparable part of their flesh and blood.

Informing overseas Vietnamese about the country's situation, the General Secretary and President said that over nearly 40 years of renovation, the country has achieved great and historic achievements.

Vietnam has become the world's leading food exporter; its economic scale ranks 40th in the world; its import-export turnover ranks in the top 20 in the world; its role and position are increasingly consolidated.

The General Secretary and President affirmed that the above achievements and results were achieved first of all due to the Party's will matching the people's will, the joint efforts of the entire Party, people and army, including the valuable contributions of our overseas Vietnamese.

The solidarity and patriotic trend of the overseas Vietnamese community is strongly demonstrated in many fields from investment-business, science-technology, education-training to culture-society, sports...

Remittances and investments from Vietnamese people abroad have made important contributions to promoting production, business, socio-economic development, and improving the lives of people in the country.

Many overseas experts and intellectuals have made important contributions to training high-quality human resources and transferring technology, demonstrated through projects and contributions to the country.

The General Secretary and President also acknowledged and highly appreciated the enthusiastic and valuable advice and consultations of overseas Vietnamese on high-tech development, green and sustainable development, preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture and language, promoting the tradition of great national unity... at the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world.

Besides, according to the General Secretary and President, the Vietnamese community abroad also has very important contributions to the successes of people-to-people diplomacy in the renovation process.

Through cultural and religious exchange activities, our overseas Vietnamese have been contributing to preserving the identity and promoting national cultural values, building the image of a beautiful and hospitable Vietnam, promoting and winning the love of international friends, contributing to enhancing the position and prestige of Vietnam in the international arena.

The development in all aspects of the Vietnamese community abroad has increasingly affirmed its role and position in the host society; many examples in work, study, scientific research, production, business... of the Vietnamese community abroad have contributed to making the country and people of Vietnam famous.

The General Secretary and President stated that the country is focusing its efforts and "accelerating" to strive to successfully complete the goals and targets set by the 13th National Party Congress; at the same time, preparing for Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress, an important milestone, a milestone of a new historical moment, a new era, an era of the Vietnamese people's rise on the path to socialism.

Thereby striving to soon complete the 100-year strategic goals under the leadership of the Party, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to achieve that goal, the contribution of overseas Vietnamese plays a very important role.

Affirming that the Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese to be an inseparable part and a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community, an important factor contributing to strengthening the cooperative relationship between our country and other countries in the world, the General Secretary and President hopes that the 6 million Vietnamese people abroad will be one, with the same belief, will and efforts towards realizing the aspiration to build a strong, prosperous and happy country as Uncle Ho told overseas Vietnamese when he visited France in 1946: "Each overseas Vietnamese must be a People's Ambassador of Vietnam, competing to strive, together contributing to the common cause of the whole nation."

The General Secretary and President called on Vietnamese experts, intellectuals and scientists abroad, those who have the fastest access to modern technology and advanced knowledge, to continue to bring their intelligence, experience and knowledge to contribute ideas to build and develop the homeland; hoping that they will not only return home to invest but also strongly promote their role as a bridge to bring Vietnamese goods and brands to the world; promote Vietnamese cultural identity and the fine traditions of our nation to international friends.

The General Secretary and President also hopes that people will integrate and strictly comply with the laws of the host country, continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, mutual love and support, "the whole leaves cover the torn leaves", always preserve the tradition of "Many red leaves cover the mirror; People in the same country must love each other" to take care of building their lives, doing business successfully, promoting the spirit of national pride and self-respect, maintaining close relationships with family and homeland, country; building an increasingly strong overseas Vietnamese community, actively contributing to the host country where people reside and accompanying the nation in the coming time, especially in the key period towards the country's 2030 and 2045 goals.

The General Secretary and President believes that no matter where our people are, whether their lives are favorable or difficult, their hearts are always filled with love for their homeland and country and they always remember that “Vietnamese is the soul of the nation. Even though they live far from their homeland, they need to preserve the Vietnamese language and the national cultural traditions so that their descendants will not forget their roots” as Uncle Ho once reminded.

The General Secretary and President affirmed that the Party, State and people of the whole country always welcome and create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to return home to visit relatives, travel, invest in production and do business; are very receptive, listen to their thoughts and aspirations, and accept their contributions and suggestions for national development.

The General Secretary and President emphasized that in the coming time, the Party and State will continue to develop and perfect policies to attract and make use of talents, promote the potential, strengths and valuable resources of overseas Vietnamese in the cause of national construction and defense; at the same time, promote cooperation with other countries to protect the legitimate rights of the overseas Vietnamese community, support compatriots to stabilize their lives, do business with peace of mind, integrate and develop strongly in the social life of the host country./.
