On July 21, in Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province, the Office of the General Department of Politics coordinated with the Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard Command to organize a seminar on "The Army with the task of protecting the environment, responding to climate change and overcoming environmental incidents".
Colonel Do Khac Can, Deputy Chief of the Office of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army and Colonel Huynh Van Dong, Political Commissar of the Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard co-chaired the discussion. Attending the discussion were leaders and officers of the Military Science Department, the General Staff and the Border Guard Command.
At the seminar, representatives of specialized agencies and units gave many opinions and discussions on the impacts and influences of climate change on training, logistics and technical assurance in combat readiness work; the advantages and difficulties in the leadership, direction and organization of the provincial Border Guard force in propagating and educating officers and soldiers and mobilizing people to participate in environmental protection and biodiversity; responding to climate change, overcoming environmental incidents, rescue; disease prevention; building a green - clean - beautiful unit landscape...

Concluding the discussion, Colonel Do Khac Can emphasized: Environmental protection is a regular task that has been widely deployed in units throughout the army. Thoroughly grasping the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on environmental protection, proactively responding to climate change, in recent years, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the General Department of Politics have had many creative solutions, practical and effective actions in environmental protection and climate change mitigation. These include: Handling and overcoming the consequences of toxic chemicals, bombs and mines left over from the war; participating in preventing and combating environmental pollution and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, storms and floods; preventing and fighting forest fires; preventing and fighting epidemics, especially the Covid-19 pandemic; investing in the construction of waste and wastewater treatment facilities in defense factories and enterprises; planting forests, etc.
"Based on the opinions at the seminar, the Office of the General Department of Politics will synthesize, recommend and propose to relevant authorities policies and solutions for leadership and direction to promote propaganda and education to raise awareness, build a sense of responsibility, positivity, proactiveness and creativity of officers and soldiers in resource management, environmental protection, proactive response to climate change and overcoming current environmental incidents," said Colonel Do Khac Can.
On this occasion, the working delegation of the General Department of Politics Office surveyed the awareness of leaders, commanders, officers, soldiers and professional soldiers of the Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard on the task of protecting the environment, proactively responding to climate change and overcoming environmental incidents in recent times.
