On December 29, 1975, the 5th National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, 2nd session, passed a resolution to merge the two provinces of Ha Tay (old) and Hoa Binh into Ha Son Binh province.
On August 12, 1991, Ha Son Binh province was divided into two provinces, Ha Tay (old) and Hoa Binh. Thach That district, which had been transferred to Hanoi since 1978, was transferred to Ha Tay province (old). In 2008, Ha Tay province merged into Hanoi city.

Gia Nghia City, Dak Nong Province, was established under Resolution 835 (December 2019) of the National Assembly Standing Committee. Gia Nghia has 8 communes and wards, an area of 284.11 km2, a population of more than 85,000 (of which Kinh people account for 87%, the rest are ethnic minorities such as M'Nong, Ma...).
Currently, Dak Nong province has 8 district-level administrative units, including Dak Glong, Cu Jut, Dak Mil, Krong No, Dak Song, Dak R'Lap, Tuy Duc districts and Gia Nghia city.
One year before Gia Nghia, Dong Xoai City of Binh Phuoc Province was established in December 2018 on the basis of upgrading Dong Xoai Town. Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong are the two provinces that have the latest cities.

Ha Tay province was established on March 21, 1965 under Decision No. 103-NQ-TVQH of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the basis of merging Son Tay and Ha Dong provinces. Previously, Son Tay province included Son Tay town and 6 districts: Bat Bat, Phuc Tho, Quang Oai, Quoc Oai, Thach That, Tung Thien; Ha Dong province included Ha Dong town and 8 districts: Chuong My, Dan Phuong, Hoai Duc, My Duc, Phu Xuyen, Thanh Oai, Thuong Tin, Ung Hoa.
When merged, Ha Tay province included 2 towns: Ha Dong (provincial capital), Son Tay and 14 districts: Bat Bat, Chuong My, Dan Phuong, Hoai Duc, My Duc, Phu Xuyen, Phuc Tho, Ba Vi, Quoc Oai, Thach That, Thanh Oai, Thuong Tin, Tung Thien, Ung Hoa.

From 1954 to 2008, Hanoi had four major administrative boundary adjustments: 1961, 1978, 1991 and 2008, all of which had great significance for the economic and social development of the capital.
