Billionaire and Vietjet founder Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao met with strategic partners from around the world in the United States from January 9-11. This is a notable event before Mr. Donald Trump returns to the White House.
According to the Government Information Portal, Chairwoman of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company (VJC) Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao met with strategic partners from many parts of the world at the Mar-a-Lago residence of US President-elect Donald Trump at the “Friends of Vietnam Summit” event from January 9-11. This is an event for Vietjet and units in the working delegation from Vietnam, aiming to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation. In 2017, during his official visit to Vietnam, President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of the first order of 100 737 Max aircraft between Boeing and Vietjet. At that time, President Trump suggested that Vietjet order 100 more aircraft. Following this suggestion, Vietjet increased the order to 200 aircraft. This year, 2025, the first year of President Trump’s term, 14 737 Max aircraft will be delivered by Boeing to Vietjet. Billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao once welcomed President Donald Trump to attend APEC Week 2017 at her Furama Resort in Da Nang. At that time, President Trump gave a speech to more than 4,000 prominent business leaders and politicians from 20 economies.

What signals come from the event of meeting with strategic partners in the US? The event of Vietjet and units in the Vietnamese delegation coming to the US promises big deals between Vietnamese and US businesses. Currently, Vietjet has strategic agreements with leading corporations such as Boeing, GE, CFM, Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell,... with a total value of nearly 50 billion USD. In addition, cooperation worth about 14 billion USD is also being discussed. These agreements are directly creating nearly 500,000 jobs for the American people. In addition, Vietjet also cooperates with leading technology corporations such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Service, Apple, Google,... The airline is also negotiating with billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX and a number of providers of in-flight Internet technology solutions to serve the fleet of hundreds of aircraft, promoting the high-tech workforce and opening a new era of innovation. It can be seen that the billion-dollar deals of billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao as well as Vietjet have greatly contributed to the development of the domestic aviation industry and the balance of trade with the US. For many years, Vietnam has had a large trade surplus with the US and has often been put on the watch list. Contracts for the purchase of aircraft or technology cooperation can help harmonize trade between the two sides. In 2024, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and the US will reach more than 132 billion USD. The US is Vietnam's largest export market, of which Vietnam's exports to the US are nearly 119 billion USD, an increase of 23.3% over the same period in 2023. Vietnamese goods are increasingly popular in the US. Bilateral trade continues to grow rapidly after the two countries established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at the end of 2023. However, imports from the US also need to be taken seriously to reduce the risk of higher tariffs. Vietnam currently ranks third among the US's main trading partners in terms of trade surplus, after China and Mexico. The Vietnamese government has also taken measures to minimize the possibility of being imposed higher tariffs by Washington, including measures to encourage imports from the US, expand export markets, etc. Some experts believe that Vietnam needs to call on large corporations to increase the use of high-quality US products and services, both to increase efficiency and economic prospects in the country and to reduce the trade surplus with this country. Moreover, the US develops leading technology in the world, especially chip technology, aerospace technology, and renewable energy technology. Cooperation with businesses such as Nvidia, Apple, SpaceX, etc. is in line with the development trend of Vietnam's economy. Vietjet is the first private airline in Vietnam with a fleet of 3 aircraft when it was established. The airline currently operates 115 new, modern, fuel-efficient aircraft and has more than 400 more on order. A large number of modern aircraft from the United States will be delivered to Vietjet, contributing to the sustainable development of the Vietnamese and global aviation industry. Entering a new phase of development, Vietjet aims to continue to be an airline with good prices and quality services, while creating bridges between people, cultures and business opportunities for businesses and people of different countries.
