Patient B. (50 years old, from Nghe An) was admitted to the hospital on June 18 with frequent and prolonged right-sided facial spasms.
According to the patient, the right side facial spasm has been present for 25 years. The patient has been examined and treated in many places (botox injections, acupuncture, internal medicine, etc.) but has not improved. Recently, the right side facial spasm has increased, so the patient came to the 108 Military Central Hospital for examination.
Here, the doctors diagnosed a vascular-neurovascular conflict in the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) on the right side and indicated surgery. The patient was admitted to the neurosurgery department (A7B) for treatment. After a thorough consultation, the doctors planned surgery for the patient.
This is a typical clinical case of hemifacial spasm, but it is also a difficult case because the image of vascular-neural conflict is not clearly seen on the MRI.
But with the trust of the patient, the patient's family and the determination of the medical team, the neurosurgery department performed surgery to release facial nerve compression.
The surgery was a success beyond expectations. The facial spasms that had affected his life for the past 25 years were completely eliminated.
After surgery and post-operative care, the patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital. This is a joy not only for the family and the patient but also for the doctors who treat and save people.

Hemifacial spasm is a chronic neurological disorder characterized clinically by involuntary, intermittent, unilateral facial spasms.
The disease is not painful or life-threatening, but it has a significant impact on the patient's aesthetics and psychosocial well-being if left untreated. Microvascular decompression surgery through the posterior sigmoid sinus is an effective treatment for this disease.
To prevent hemifacial spasm, people should maintain a healthy lifestyle, avoid stress, exercise regularly and have a reasonable diet.
If symptoms of hemifacial spasm appear, you need to see a doctor and get timely treatment to avoid the disease from prolonging and affecting your daily life.
