Ginger, garlic, onion and some available spices help increase resistance, treat coughs and colds.

Note about the remedies to increase resistance during Tet holidays to cope with the weather, especially when the North is cold, traditional medicine experts guide the simple processing of available spices and herbs to prevent common diseases in winter and spring.

According to Dr. Trang, honey, garlic, green tea, and cinnamon can all help the body become stronger and increase resistance to pathogens. You can use garlic soaked in honey mixed with warm water to drink in the morning. The recommended dosage is 1 clove of garlic, 20 ml of honey, and 200 ml of hot water.

Or increase resistance from available herbs. Specifically: oregano, cinnamon, mint, green tea (5 grams each, mix with 200 ml of boiling water, steep for 5-10 minutes, drink warm).

Green tea and ginger (10 grams each) decoct or soak in boiling water and drink during the day.

Treat colds: mint, Vietnamese balm, perilla, fresh onion (30 grams each) cook porridge and eat hot to sweat or boil in water to drink hot.

Treat respiratory tract infections, stuffy nose, runny nose: squeeze garlic to get juice (1 clove) mix with boiled water to cool in a ratio of 1/20, use as nasal drops. Boil perilla, mint (1 handful each) to get water to drink instead of tea.

In case of vomiting, bloating, indigestion, you can use ginger (5 slices) boiled in warm water to drink. Or garlic (crushed 3-5 cloves) used to apply on the affected area. Garlic is placed on a thin cloth to avoid burning the skin.

Every day, you can gently steam your house with soapberry, dried grapefruit peel or essential oils (lemongrass, cinnamon, mint, coriander, cajeput...), both to disinfect the air and create a pleasant fragrance to welcome guests on Tet holiday.

Doctor Trang also noted that to stay healthy during Tet, you need to eat a lot of dark green vegetables to supplement vitamin C, combine with practicing physical exercises, qigong, tai chi, regular exercise, and maintain an optimistic and happy spirit, which is also a positive way to prevent diseases.

Prevent acute paralysis and cold-induced stroke

Dr. Trang added that people with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, and hypertension need to maintain a regular, nutritious diet and not skip medication. Eating regularly and taking the right dose of medication are extremely important in controlling chronic diseases.

"Familiar dishes during Tet that every family has such as sausage, cold cuts, meat jelly, Chinese sausage, ham... are generally too salty and fatty, so they are not good for people who need a low-salt, low-fat diet. Therefore, limiting the intake of these food groups is also a way to stabilize the disease and prevent complications," Dr. Trang shared.

Some diseases can be contracted when exposed to cold or sudden changes in temperature such as: facial paralysis (peripheral facial nerve palsy); acute torticollis, colds, respiratory infections, cerebrovascular accidents... Therefore, when going out, you need to wear enough warm clothes, keep your neck covered, stay at home to avoid drafts, avoid bathing too late at night, especially young children, the elderly, people with cardiovascular disease...
