Recently, orange farmers in the West, especially Vinh Long and Tra Vinh, are facing a sharp drop in orange prices, causing serious damage.
Orange farmers in Tra On (Vinh Long) said that they invest about 120 million VND for each hectare of land to grow oranges. At the best time, they harvest 10 tons of oranges at a selling price of about 20,000 VND/kg. This year, right from the beginning of the season, the price of oranges has dropped to about 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg. Up to now, grade 1 oranges are only 2,000 VND/kg, but traders are still buying them in small amounts.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra On district, the current price of oranges ranges from 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg for households growing less than 10 hectares of land. Some orange areas of enterprises are not properly cared for, leading to bad fruit and prices of only 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.
