Continue to foster the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia

From December 5-6, in the coastal province of Kep in the southern Kingdom of Cambodia, a conference was held between the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association and the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association to review and evaluate the results of coordination activities between the two organizations in 2024, as well as to outline the direction of activities in 2025.

According to a VNA correspondent in Cambodia, on the Vietnamese side, the conference was attended by Party Central Committee member, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman, Chairwoman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association Nguyen Thi Thanh; Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang, and a delegation of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association.

On the Cambodian side, the conference was attended by Ms. Men Sam An, Direct Supreme Advisor to the King of Cambodia, Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association; delegates from the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Kep provincial government.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh said that this conference took place at a time when the Cambodian people were celebrating the 46th anniversary of the founding of the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation, the predecessor of the current Kampuchean United Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland (December 2, 1978 - December 2, 2024), a particularly important political event, forever engraved in the hearts and memories of the Cambodian and Vietnamese people.

According to Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh, along with the important and comprehensive achievements of each country, the Vietnam-Cambodia political relationship continues to develop well.

Senior leaders of the two countries maintain regular visits and contacts. Cooperation between ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries with practical cooperation mechanisms is increasingly implemented effectively, deepening cooperation in all fields.

Cooperation in the fields of security and defense between the two countries has been strengthened. Both sides always affirm that they will not allow any hostile forces to use their territory to harm the security of the other country.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh emphasized that Kien Giang and Kep are one of 10 provinces of Vietnam that share land and sea borders with Kep and Kampot provinces of Cambodia, and have close neighborly relations and long-standing traditional friendship. Over the years, the people of Kien Giang and Kep provinces have always been determined to preserve the traditional friendship, meeting the aspirations of the people and interests for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh stated that all levels and sectors of the two provinces should coordinate to propagate policies and laws on building a peaceful and friendly border, mobilize people on both sides to strictly abide by the law, not to cross the border illegally, actively participate in border security protection activities, and propagate the work of demarcation and marker planting on the land border between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The two border provinces together detect and prevent cross-border smuggling, illegal exploitation of seafood in historical waters, and plots and acts of sabotage that cause division in the traditional solidarity and friendship between the people of the two sides.

Assessing the activities of the two associations over the past year, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh said that in order to continue promoting the tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance, the two associations have innovated their activities, better fulfilling their role as a bridge of friendship between the people of the two countries, promoting cooperation between localities and enterprises on the basis of mutual benefit; at the same time helping the young generations of the two countries to increasingly understand and connect with each other, contributing to deepening the traditional solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, the two States and the two peoples.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh expressed her hope that with its prestige and influence, the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association will continue to support the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Cambodia so that they can integrate well into the host society and have a stable, long-term life.

Based on the summary report and from the rich practical activities of the association at all levels, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh asked the delegates to propose solutions and measures to remove difficulties and obstacles so that the coordination in implementing the "Memorandum of Understanding on coordination of activities for the period 2022-2027 between the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association and the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association" in 2025 and the following years will achieve more results, bring more practical benefits, and actively contribute to preserving and fostering the traditional friendship and solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam-Cambodia, Cambodia-Vietnam, the invaluable common asset of the two nations and peoples.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Men Sam An, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, highly appreciated the cooperation achievements between the two associations in recent times. According to her, since the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the two sides have continued joint activities to strengthen the friendship, solidarity and good cooperation, smash the sabotage plots of hostile forces, contribute to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and promote the development of each country.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, Ms. Men Sam An expressed her deep gratitude for the strong support and great assistance that the Party and people of Vietnam have given to the Cambodian people in the past and at present. The Cambodian people will always remember the help and sacrifice of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who cooperated with the Cambodian army and people in the cause of national liberation from the Pol Pot genocidal regime in 1979.

The President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association affirmed that Cambodia and Vietnam will always maintain good relations and trust in each other, regardless of changes in the world's geopolitical situation.

After a period of active work with a high sense of responsibility, the two sides agreed to continue to cooperate in building the organization and activities of the Friendship Association of each country to continue to contribute to consolidating and enhancing the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The two sides continue to implement the memorandum of understanding signed on August 1, 2022 to coordinate and promote propaganda and education for members and people of the two countries, especially the young generation, about the tradition of solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, prevent false propaganda plots by hostile forces to divide the solidarity and friendship between the people of the two countries, raise awareness and responsibility to preserve, foster and fight to protect the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship, considering this a top priority task, contributing to the cause of building, developing and defending the homeland of each country.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation and experience exchange between the levels of the two countries' associations, especially between the provinces, districts and communes bordering the border, between Ho Chi Minh City and the capital Phnom Penh to promote understanding, trust and sharing of experiences in the work of building and organizing association activities; at the same time, strengthen coordination between the levels of the association in social security activities, support the poor in border areas, help and create favorable conditions for Cambodian people to go to Vietnam for medical examination and treatment.

In addition, the two sides agreed to meet once a year to summarize, evaluate, implement the memorandum and exchange opinions, and propose directions for activities for the following years.

In particular, in the context of the complicated developments of the international situation and the requirements for national development, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh emphasized that the two sides need to continue to maintain regular meetings to exchange information on the situation, share operational experiences between senior leaders and between the two countries' associations at all levels in appropriate forms; encourage the organization of friendly meetings and people-to-people cooperation, cultural, artistic and sports exchanges between associations at all levels.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh also suggested that the Friendship Associations of the two countries should promote their role in connecting, supporting and creating conditions for businesses to expand investment, trade and tourism cooperation in an increasingly practical and effective manner; proactively propose and actively participate with the authorities and functional agencies to promptly resolve issues arising between people in border areas, contributing to building a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development between the two countries.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh emphasized the need to continue to coordinate and promote the implementation of the "Nurturing Friendship" program in the direction of diversifying forms of activities, with practical and effective content.

Through these activities, in addition to supporting and encouraging international students to study well, it is necessary to pay attention to understanding the thoughts and aspirations of international students in order to promptly propose appropriate solutions to competent authorities.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh expressed her delight that after more than a year of establishment, the Association of Cambodian Alumni Studying in Vietnam (CAVA) has gathered a large number of members and has many active activities, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the friendly and cooperative relations between the people and young generations of the two countries.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh invited Samdech Men Sam An, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, to visit Vietnam and attend the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Hanoi./.
