Fake PhD once provided notarized master's degree, teaching certificate

Informing Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, a representative of Ton Duc Thang University confirmed through verification by the Information Technology Department that Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai, who used fake master's and doctoral degrees, had participated in teaching at this university.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai's doctorate degree was confirmed by the University of Natural Sciences , Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, not in the school's degree data.

Accordingly, after reviewing and verifying relevant information, the Faculty of Information Technology, Ton Duc Thang University confirmed that Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai participated in a guest lecture at the school in the extra semester (semester 3) of the 2021-2022 school year and only lasted 1.5 months.

At that time, Mr. Hai proactively contacted the software technology department of the Faculty of Information Technology to express his wish to participate as a guest lecturer at the department.

"After reviewing Mr. Hai's profile and finding it suitable according to the regulations for inviting guest lecturers, the department followed the invitation process. Mr. Hai provided his personal profile according to the regulations (inviting process and procedures). In particular, Mr. Hai provided complete and formal documents in accordance with the invitation process and procedures. Specifically, including a notarized copy of his master's degree in information technology, a certificate of pedagogical skills, a citizen identification card, and a scientific resume confirmed by the local authorities," the representative informed.

According to this representative, based on the documents confirmed by the government agency and notary organization as mentioned above, the department and faculty agreed with Mr. Hai on the invitation to teach. Although a notarized master's degree was provided, because it was the first time cooperating with the department, the department did not arrange a theory class but only invited Mr. Hai to guide 2 practice groups (30 periods/group). The teaching materials for the subject were provided by the faculty for Mr. Hai to implement for the students.

According to the school representative, Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai was only assigned to evaluate one process score column (accounting for 20% of the subject), the other score columns and subject evaluation were all done by other lecturers. After the end of the semester, the department did not continue to invite Mr. Hai to teach in the following semesters because the department had other more suitable candidates.

During the teaching process, the school representative said that Mr. Hai strictly followed the regulations of the faculty and school and did not record any feedback from students about his teaching.

"But through this incident, the Faculty of Information Technology has reported and explained to the Board of Directors, seriously learned from experience and conducted stricter checks in reviewing and evaluating the degrees of lecturers who cooperated with the faculty," a representative of Ton Duc Thang University added.

Scientific background declared by fake PhD Nguyen Truong Hai during his application to become a lecturer

Previously, as Thanh Nien Newspaper reported, Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai used fake doctoral and master's degrees to teach and apply to many universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City. In the scientific resume used to apply for the job, Mr. Hai stated that he graduated from university and had a doctorate in information technology from the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University). However, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences affirmed that the school did not grant a degree to Mr. Hai and the school's training data also did not contain information about this student.

In addition to his training information, Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai continued to stir public opinion about his scientific background that he declared when applying for jobs at schools. In it, Mr. Hai listed a number of international articles co-authored with several names in the field of information technology. According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, Mr. Hai's personal profile was not suitable for the position of lecturer due to the lack of a university degree. Mr. Hai's other degrees were also invalid after verification.
