"It's certainly frustrating to concede a goal," Laura Freigang told Kicker after seeing Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha score in the third minute of injury time in the second half. However, Freigang also looked at the positive side: "Vietnamese fans came to the stadium in large numbers, I'm happy because they finally got to celebrate the goal."
Around 14,000 spectators were present at the 26,500-seat Bieberer Berg Stadium to watch the match, a third of whom were Vietnamese – who celebrated wildly at the late goal.
Laura Freigang, playing at No. 10, had a good chance midway through the second half but fired wide. She believes Germany need to address their mistakes, especially in the second half, as soon as possible. "We were often impatient with the final pass," Freigang concluded.
Meanwhile, midfielder Lena Lattwein said the team played on instinct, looking like a mixed bag. "We struggled to score goals and our defensive positioning was poor," the Wolfsburg player admitted.
Main events of the match Germany 2-1 Vietnam.
Etonam Nicole Anyomi, who assisted Germany's opening goal, paid tribute to Vietnam. She said: "The match showed that it doesn't matter who your opponent is and you have to play at 100%. Vietnam is not a big team like England, but you still need to fight every second with courage and play football in the most basic way."
Germany still showed their class when they controlled the ball 72%, launched 560 passes with 88% accuracy. However, the attack launched 23 shots but only six were on target, while the defense gave Vietnam three clear scoring opportunities, according to Sofascore .
