On February 8 and 9, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (SOCV) Le Thi Thu Hang led the working delegation of the Committee to work on community work in Malaysia.

At the meeting with the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh and representatives of the agencies reported on the work situation and the Vietnamese community in the host country. The Vietnamese community in Malaysia has about 30,000 people including workers, students, researchers and a part of brides from multicultural families.

The highlight is that the people have the will to rise up, strive to do business and actively integrate into the local society, especially always stay attached to their homeland, proactively have many exciting activities to connect and build the community, preserve Vietnamese language and culture, promote culinary culture, actively participate in activities organized by the Embassy and in the country, and do charity work.

During the recent Typhoon Yagi, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the overseas Vietnamese community in Malaysia promptly donated and supported more than 300 million VND to help people in the country overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

In the locality, the Malaysia - Vietnam Friendship Association has many activities to build community solidarity and actively contribute to the cooperation and friendship between the two countries, receiving the attention and support of the local authorities. The Embassy considers community work and citizen protection as a key task, regularly paying attention to and supporting the Malaysia - Vietnam Friendship Association, actively encouraging people to have meaningful activities in the spirit of solidarity, mutual support, sharing, living and working in compliance with local laws, and being attached to the homeland and country. The Embassy has mobilized and created conditions to open Vietnamese language classes for overseas Vietnamese children right at the Embassy headquarters, creating facilities for teaching and learning Vietnamese, including online.

However, the community still faces some difficulties in legal status and living conditions, leading to the failure to fully exploit the community's development potential.
