Vietnamese rice export prices continue to remain high
The Vietnamese rice market attracted attention when, as of mid-June, the price of 5% broken rice had increased to the highest level since April 2021, reaching about 498 USD/ton, higher than Thailand and India. Up to now, Vietnam's rice export prices have continued to increase, remaining at a high price range.
According to the Food Association, on July 13, the price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam reached 513 USD/ton, an increase of 5 USD/ton compared to the beginning of July.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade assessed that the El Nino weather phenomenon appearing in Asia is causing concerns in many countries about food production activities. Vietnamese rice prices continue to stay at high prices due to high global demand, while domestic supply is scarce due to the end of the old harvest.
In the coming time, in addition to continuing to maintain the growth momentum in both value and volume, according to the representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, businesses need to take advantage of the opportunity of high prices to innovate in market development.
"In terms of trade, we focus on building the Vietnamese rice brand to shape and enhance the value of rice. In addition to our position as one of the largest rice exporting countries in the world, Vietnamese rice also means delicious, high-quality and safe rice. Building the brand of each enterprise is important, so that in addition to the general brand of the country, enterprises are associated with specific types of rice," said Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade.
According to the balance of supply and demand of rice for export of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , in general, the production situation of the whole country in 2023 after deducting domestic consumption, the amount of goods for export mainly concentrated in the Mekong Delta region is estimated at about 13 million tons, equivalent to about 6.6 - 7 million tons of rice for export in 2023.
