After 6 years of investing nearly 1.5 million USD (about 38 billion VND), the 12-hectare durian garden of Mr. Nguyen Chat Sam - Owner of Sam Phat Ialy farmstay has produced its first sweet fruit season. With 1,300 Musang King durian trees - the world's most delicious durian originating from Malaysia and 700 Monthong durian trees from Thailand, the harvest season of this "king" fruit brings the farm owner billions of dong and unique experiences for tourists.

Mr. Shivprasad Sahu (Indian tourist) and his group of friends are on vacation at Sam Phat Ialy farmstay. He said that he was very impressed with the large durian garden located in the middle of a beautiful natural landscape.
“I learned about this farmstay through Facebook and invited my friends to come here out of curiosity. This is a durian farm that is loved by people in Southeast Asian countries in particular and Asia in general. Here, we were introduced to the process of growing and caring for durian trees in an organic way at the farm, picking durians in the garden and enjoying them on the spot. Every day when we wake up, we are immersed in the majestic natural scenery, enjoying delicious meals and many other professional services. This experience is very interesting. I will introduce my friends to come here to enjoy durian and learn about the lives of farmers here,” said Shivprasad Sahu.

Being from Gia Lai and familiar with the fruit known as the “king of fruits”, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong was still overwhelmed by the scale of the durian garden at Sam Phat Ialy farmstay. While walking through the organically grown durian garden, wading through tall grass, Ms. Phuong happily said: “There are a lot of durians grown here. Walking in the garden, you can also pick up ripe fruits that have fallen and eat them right under the tree. This is an attractive destination for tourists when traveling to Gia Lai, especially for durian “fans”.

According to Mr. Nguyen Chat Sam, this is the first harvest of the farmstay. There are many experiences for tourists here besides swimming pool services, accommodation, typical cuisine, enjoying gongs... The owner of the durian garden excitedly added: With 12 hectares of 2 types of king durian of the world, he earns about 7-8 billion VND. If the season is good and the price is good, this number will double, even triple.

“On average, each durian tree produces 70-80 fruits, some weighing up to 4-5 kg. Every day, traders buy about 1.5-2 tons from the garden. We leave the ripe fruits that fall to serve tourists who come to enjoy them in the garden, and we separate the segments and freeze the rest on the spot for tourists to buy as gifts. Many tourists who come here to experience durian season are very excited about the scenery and the taste of durian here. Tourists who enjoy it all praise it and buy it as gifts.
Over the past 6 years, we have tried to grow and care for durian gardens in an organic way to serve green tourism. Recently, a flight brought durian from Sam Phat Ialy farmstay to Malaysia. The product is also exported to China, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, etc. Hopefully, through this product, tourists will know more about this land as well as Gia Lai agricultural tourism" - Mr. Sam shared.

In addition to 12 hectares of durian, Sam Phat Ialy farmstay also dedicates over 5 hectares to a swimming pool, restaurant, coffee shop, and entertainment area. The farmstay owner also invested in a separate resort with views of the mountains, lake, and Ialy hydroelectric dam. Services are guaranteed to serve tourists visiting, relaxing, and experiencing agricultural activities.

As Chairman of the Chu Pah District Durian Association, Mr. Nguyen Chat Sam said that if durian trees are well cared for, they will yield high yields, good quality, and become a tree that will bring wealth. However, if farmers take care of them organically and combine them with tourism, they will create a unique farmstay model, creating a sustainable development direction for durian trees and rural tourism. He hopes that members of the Durian Association will aim for this to increase the value of high-end agricultural products and create unique and interesting agricultural tourism experiences for visitors to Gia Lai.
