"Excess of multiple nutrients, lack of micronutrients" occurs at many ages.
"Hidden hunger" (another name for micronutrient deficiency) occurs silently in all ages, in all individuals who do not have a reasonable diet, and do not tolerate a variety of fruits and vegetables. The 2020 General Nutrition Survey shows that micronutrient deficiencies (iron, zinc, vitamins, etc.) are common in both children and adults.
The state of "starvation" of micronutrients is also difficult to recognize, until the body emits signs of "calling for help" from within such as: fatigue, lack of energy, easy illness due to reduced immunity and muscle and bone pain. These manifestations are often easily confused with symptoms of other diseases or are often overlooked.
In the long term, nutrition experts warn: " Vietnamese people eat unhealthy, unbalanced diets, because they eat a lot of meat and animal fat but little green vegetables and fruit, which increases chronic diseases related to nutrition such as: overweight, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, dyslipidemia ".
Experts added that Vietnamese people eat 136g of meat per day - double the recommended requirement of 70g, leading to an increase in many chronic diseases. The rate of overweight and obesity in school children has increased rapidly from 8.5% in 2010 to 19% in 2020, which is a typical example.
Post-Covid-19, Vietnamese people have gradually changed their health priorities, focusing more on a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as looking for comprehensive nutritional regimens. However, if the way of caring is only superficial and lacks depth, adults will still find it difficult to completely "eliminate" micronutrient hunger to build a healthy, flexible and resilient body from within.
Take care of your health properly to supplement enough micronutrients
In addition to adjusting the scientific diet, the current trend of Vietnamese people is to use additional health protection foods, multivitamins... to ensure the body is fully supplemented with micronutrients.
Ms. Thu Thao (34 years old, Go Vap, Ho Chi Minh City) shared about her choice to take multivitamins: " Last year, my family in the US advised me to take some multivitamins. After a period of use, I saw that my health problems gradually improved, so I have continued to take them until now."
With over 40 years of experience in the field of nutritional science, in order to make it easier for consumers, GlaxoSmithKline Company Limited launched the "Rainbow Meal" campaign to help consumers better understand the importance of micronutrients for health and methods to ensure micronutrients for the body every day. Rainbow Meal is the concept of a meal that combines foods of different colors (red, orange, yellow, white, brown, green, blue and purple) to help prevent micronutrient deficiencies.
Ms. Le Thi Mai Linh, President and CEO of GlaxoSmithKline Vietnam Consumer Goods and Healthcare Company Limited, shared: "Understanding that health is an important foundation for the development of each individual, family and society, our company wishes to join hands with the Vietnamese people in proactive and comprehensive health care. With the goal of bringing better health to consumers, we will continue to accompany nutrition experts to help each Vietnamese person understand correctly and fully the importance of proactive and comprehensive care. We hope to bring many of the Group's health care products to Vietnamese consumers with the goal of making daily health care easier, more comprehensive and sustainable for everyone in Vietnam."
