Promoting economic diplomacy to serve national development

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that the most important thing in economic diplomacy is to exploit the potential for cooperation with partners that Vietnam has upgraded and upgraded relations with, while creating new resources for the country's socio-economic development. Since the beginning of the year, economic diplomacy has been implemented in a systematic and effective manner, making substantial contributions to socio-economic development. This is reflected in three contents. One is to contribute to maintaining a favorable foreign situation for national development and promoting the attraction of resources to serve growth drivers. Two is to contribute to consolidating growth drivers through reviewing the implementation of recently signed trade liberalization agreements, upgrading existing agreements and proactively negotiating new agreements. Three is to actively support localities and enterprises, resolutely removing obstacles in projects with the spirit of taking people, localities and enterprises as the center of service. In dozens of high-level foreign affairs activities since the beginning of 2024, economic content continues to be the focus, bringing specific and substantive results, signing many commitments and cooperation agreements with partners. Most recently, during the State visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam, central and local ministries, branches and sectors of Vietnam and China signed 14 cooperation documents.

Economic diplomacy has actively supported connection, promotion, advertising, removing trade barriers, promoting new directions, thereby expanding markets for industries, fields, localities and businesses. Vietnam has welcomed many large corporations and enterprises into Vietnam such as NVIDIA, Apple, Intel, Google, Inforsys, Siemens... Along with that, it continues to take full advantage of the network of 16 FTAs ​​signed with 60 partners, promote negotiations to upgrade many current FTAs ​​and accelerate FTA negotiations with new partners. Right from the first months of the year, Minister Bui Thanh Son has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to focus on implementing a number of tasks to promote economic diplomacy. The first is to direct representative agencies to continue supporting provinces and businesses to participate in trade promotion activities, tourism investment, and promote strong products in the Middle East, Africa, especially the Gulf region. The second is to continue supporting the export of key products, especially wooden products, to the Middle East and African markets. Calling for investment from investment funds in the Middle East in areas of great interest to them. The above results of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - under the leadership of Minister Bui Thanh Son - were commended and welcomed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Prime Minister's Conference with heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad on promoting economic diplomacy to boost economic growth in the last 6 months of 2024 and the following years, held last July.
