On the afternoon of October 9, in Hanoi, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense received Ms. Carmen Cano De Lasala, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Vietnam.
At the reception, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the defense cooperation between Vietnam and Spain still has much room to promote cooperation, in accordance with the needs and capabilities of each country. The General also suggested that in the coming time, the two sides should focus on a number of contents: exchanging delegations at all levels; promoting training cooperation, especially in the field of Spanish.

Vietnam is ready to receive Spanish military students to study Vietnamese at the Academy of Military Sciences and attend the International Defense Officials Course at the National Defense Academy. Strengthen cooperation in the field of United Nations peacekeeping; cooperate in strategic exchanges, share experiences and support the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in overcoming the consequences of war in Vietnam; continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums...
On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang congratulated Ms. Carmen Cano De Lasala, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain on her tenure in Vietnam; emphasizing that Vietnam attaches importance to and highly values the cooperative relationship with Spain; wishing to bring the bilateral relationship to a new height, commensurate with the cooperation potential of the two sides. In recent times, the Vietnam - Spain defense cooperation has been implemented in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation (signed in 2010), achieving results in a number of areas, such as: delegation exchanges, especially high-level delegation exchanges; training; defense industry; United Nations peacekeeping.
Ambassador Carmen Cano De Lasala expressed her good feelings towards the people and country of Vietnam; sympathized with Vietnam about the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi; and highly appreciated the disaster response capacity of the Vietnam People's Army. Regarding bilateral defense cooperation, Ambassador Carmen Cano De Lasala suggested that the two sides continue to promote cooperation, especially in the fields of training and United Nations peacekeeping .
