As a Belgian businessman, Mr. Bruno Jaspaert has been in charge of the Vietnamese market since 2018 and as an investor from Europe, Mr. Bruno said that businesses should not only invest and make profits in Vietnam but also bring sustainable benefits to the community. That is also the reason why within the framework of GEFE 2024, a student festival will be held with the participation of 2,000 people.

"GEFE wants to convey messages about green economy to students - the future generation of the country, so that they are more aware of their role, as well as clearly identify the future and challenges of climate change... GEFE 2024 is expected to make a difference, working with the EU business community to find ways to support Vietnam's sustainable development in many ways instead of just bilateral relations" - Mr. Bruno Jaspaert.

Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Vietnam, Mr. Julian Guerrier, said that GEFE 2024 will be a great opportunity for senior representatives of the EU and Vietnamese business communities to share experiences in sustainable development. In Vietnam, European businesses are being supported in investment and production by trade agreements, typically the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which not only brings about 4% growth for both businesses, but European businesses have also been bringing jobs, technology, sustainable development, environmental protection, etc.

"European businesses have a lot of experience in economic development and are continuing to lead the world in ensuring sustainable development goals and reducing emissions for Europe by 2050. We all recognize that green transformation is a global challenge, so the EU will accompany global trading partners, including Vietnam, to achieve the goal of reducing emissions to zero as committed at COP 26, as well as support Vietnam in its orientation to become a developed country by 2045 - Mr. Julian Guerrier affirmed.

As of August 2024, the EU is the 4th largest trading partner of Vietnam, while Vietnam is the EU's largest trading partner in the ASEAN bloc.

In particular, according to Mr. Phu, the EVFTA has promoted and motivated EU investors to access and expand investment in Vietnam, contributing to bringing the EU to the 6th position among the largest FDI investors in Vietnam with 2,450 projects and a total investment capital of more than 28 billion euros.

Therefore, the Netherlands has a special interest in promoting trade growth between the EU and Vietnam, ensuring future growth and sustainable development.

"The EU is the global leader in the green transition, with new regulations requiring greener, cleaner, low-emission production.

Vietnamese businesses that want to export goods to the EU will have to meet new market requirements, and to do that, investing in emission reduction, green agriculture, and meeting new standards is a prerequisite. Even secondary businesses must meet this requirement. Therefore, we expect GEFE 2024 to bring green, clean, and sustainable production solutions to businesses," said the Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Vietnam.

Responding to the press's question about solutions to support businesses in green transformation, Mr. Vu Ba Phu said: "A few years ago, we realized that if we do not transform green and focus on sustainable development, then in just a few years, by 2027-2028, even if we have good goods, we will not be able to export to good markets with high value such as the EU, Japan, the United States...".

Mr. Phu said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has set out the requirement to raise awareness and capacity of the business community on green transformation and sustainable development; perfect institutions and policies on emission control, encourage and support businesses to practice and implement green transformation plans and demonstrate social responsibility.
