HAGL had a bad start
The match against Hai Phong FC at Lach Tray Stadium at 7:15 p.m. will be a huge challenge for HAGL. Despite the crisis, Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem's team still has spirit, as shown in the 2-2 draw against Hanoi FC or the narrow 1-2 defeat against Nam Dinh FC.
On the other hand, HAGL has lost 2 out of the last 3 matches. Coach Le Quang Trai’s players have shown signs of having their playing style figured out and their attacking ability has declined, as key striker Marciel dos Santos is no longer maintaining his form.
Hai Phong Club scored 2 goals against HAGL in the first half.
The rebound from the wall helped Hai Phong Club completely overwhelm their opponents in the first half. The team from Hai Phong controlled the ball, organizing a series of attacks from the center to the two wings. In the 5th minute, Luong Hoang Nam coordinated a good pass with Bicou Bissainthe and then entered the penalty area, but the former U.20 Vietnam midfielder handled the ball slowly, causing the opportunity to pass.
Because coach Le Quang Trai kept both foreign player Marciel and midfielder Chau Ngoc Quang on the bench, HAGL was overwhelmed by the opponent in the midfield.
In the 25th minute, Hai Phong FC had a golden opportunity to open the score. Lucao do Break moved wisely and had a chance to face goalkeeper Duong Van Loi, before being pulled down by HAGL's Jairo Rodrigues in the penalty area. But on the penalty spot, Lucao's simple shot was caught by Van Loi.
Despite narrowly escaping defeat, HAGL could not improve their playing style. Coach Le Quang Trai's team was still under pressure and could not play the ball coherently.
The joy of Hai Phong Club
In the 37th minute, Hai Phong's efforts brought the opening goal. From a corner kick by Nguyen Huu Son, Bicou jumped high and headed the ball across the corner to defeat goalkeeper Van Loi. In the 45+2 minute, the home team once again found the HAGL net. Ze Paulo ran up to steal the ball and passed it to Lucao, who then turned delicately to pass the ball to Huu Son who ran up from the right edge of the penalty area. The player wearing the number 77 shirt finished accurately, doubling the gap for Hai Phong Club.
deadlock
In the second half, coach Le Quang Trai sent Ngoc Quang and Marciel onto the field. With a better midfield, HAGL regained control of the game. In the 56th minute, Nguyen Thanh Nhan received the ball in the penalty area and quickly turned to shoot, but the ball went too lightly for goalkeeper Dinh Trieu.
Hai Phong FC slowed down their attack and focused on a tight defense. Thanks to that, HAGL increased the pressure. However, the home team Hai Phong still had some great moves, such as Ze Paulo's bold shot outside the box that hit the crossbar.
HAGL wanted to speed up the game, but just like the previous match against Ha Tinh, the mountain town team was not strong in the ability to impose, pressure and create opportunities.
The lackluster play in the second half could not help HAGL find an equalizer. On the contrary, Hai Phong FC had at least 4 chances to attack. However, goalkeeper Van Loi played with concentration to clear the danger.
Defeating HAGL with a score of 2-0, Hai Phong Club had its first victory in V-League 2024 - 2025. Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem's team has 7 points, rising to 12th place. HAGL dropped to 6th place, and may sink even deeper after the remaining matches of round 9 end.
