Provincial library - destination for developing reading culture

After 70 years of establishment and development, the Provincial Library is now one of the libraries with the most beautiful headquarters in the Northern region. With a diverse system of functional reading rooms and many reader-centered activities that have been implemented, the Provincial Library is contributing to arousing passion and practicing reading skills among the people, especially teenagers and children. From there, gradually forming a reading culture, towards building a learning society.

Important cultural institutions

On a total area of ​​7,000m2 , the Provincial Library has a main building with a scale of 3 floors, an area of ​​4,600m2 of floor space, including 13 types of warehouses with a capacity of over 550,000 publications, 6 types of reading rooms with a capacity of serving over 300 readers, a conference room with a scale of nearly 300 seats, administrative and service rooms that meet optimal working conditions for library staff to serve readers and people. In addition, there are essential auxiliary items outside the house, ensuring a spacious landscape, creating a complex of cultural architectural works in the Le Quy Don flower garden area, both contributing to urban beautification and being a public space serving the people. This is also the place to organize outdoor activities of the Library according to the requirements of developing a reading culture in the community.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Director of the Provincial Library, informed: Regarding facilities, the Provincial Library has a modern automatic fire alarm system; deodorizing, dehumidifying, dust extraction systems, surveillance cameras and air conditioning systems in all working rooms, serving readers. In 2017, from the investment in electronic libraries and digital libraries, we have all modern electronic equipment such as computers, projectors, cameras, book control gates... This project has supported the digitization of books, newspapers, and local documents to put into the database, serving readers' research through the library's website. Since 2019, the Provincial Library has been equipped with a mobile library car with 5,000 books, 6 laptops, 100 seats, and accompanying equipment like a miniature library to serve the reading needs of people in the province. During the past 70 years of operation, the Provincial Library is very proud to be an important cultural institution, an important address for readers. Although today's audio-visual media is developing, social networks are booming, the Provincial Library still plays an important role, affirming that books and newspapers are a means of disseminating profound knowledge serving the work of studying, researching, and entertaining that many other forms of reading cannot replace.

"Sowing" the culture of reading

Every year, the Provincial Library welcomes tens of thousands of readers to study, look up, and search for information through the system of books and newspapers equipped and stored here. Visiting the Provincial Library for the first time with their teachers and friends, nearly 200 students of Dong My Kindergarten ( Thai Binh City) were extremely excited. Right from the entrance of the library, the students offered incense to commemorate the scholar Le Quy Don and listened to stories about the studious spirit and thirst for knowledge of the famous person from Thai Binh. After that, with the enthusiastic guidance of the Provincial Library staff, the students experienced the functional reading rooms. At the same time, they were instructed on skills to keep the common space clean, limit noise so that everyone could focus on reading and form the habit of receiving information from books and newspapers. In addition to the functional reading room system such as: children's room, mother and baby room, multimedia reading room... on this occasion, readers coming to the library can also admire many elaborately invested artistic book arrangement works.

Ms. Ha Thi Bich Dao, Principal of Dong My Kindergarten, shared: Building and fostering good habits helps children accumulate valuable skills for the future. Therefore, the school is very interested in forming reading habits for children. When coming to the Provincial Library, we saw that not only the students but also the teachers were very excited, supporting them to find their favorite children's books, organizing reading activities for them and games to answer questions related to books. The very friendly space at the Provincial Library has contributed to creating excitement and passion for discovery for young children. The school will strive to organize more trips to the Provincial Library for students.

Along with the activities of serving readers to the library, throughout the months of the school year, the multimedia library car has visited schools in the province, organized meaningful reading hours with exciting experiential activities, and at the same time presented hundreds of books to students. Ms. Duong Thi Nguyet, Principal of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School (Thai Thuy) shared: The books presented on the journey of the multimedia library car of the Provincial Library are gifts of great spiritual value, motivating the school's students to strive to study more enthusiastically, become cultural ambassadors of reading, and spread the passion for reading to everyone.

With spacious and modern facilities, the Provincial Library aims to promote digital transformation, library connectivity, build electronic libraries, and use modern technology to support readers' reading and information exploitation. At the same time, actively organize diverse activities to develop reading culture, soon becoming an attractive destination not only for readers in the province but also a stopover for visitors from near and far when visiting Thai Binh.
