On the morning of June 5, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for International Trade, Ministry of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the second visit to Vietnam by Mr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and the efforts of both sides in promoting negotiations on the Vietnam-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA); especially in the context that 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is steadfast in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization; it is a good friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community; it builds an independent and self-reliant economy associated with proactive and active international integration, deeply, practically, and effectively.
According to the Prime Minister, in recent years, the world economy has faced many difficulties, however, Vietnam has maintained positive growth momentum, with GDP increasing by 8.02% in 2022.
From 2021, Vietnam will be among the 20 economies with the largest trade scale in the world. In 2022, Vietnam's total import-export turnover will reach 732.5 billion USD.
To date, Vietnam has deeply integrated with the world with 15 free trade agreements (FTAs) at the bilateral and regional levels, creating many market opportunities for foreign investors and enterprises to cooperate in business in Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the UAE's efforts to diversify its economy, shifting its economic development from oil and gas to service sectors; affirming that the UAE is one of Vietnam's leading economic partners in the Middle East.
The friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries have recently seen positive developments in many areas such as politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, education, tourism, and energy. In particular, bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached more than 4.4 billion USD. However, there is still a lot of room for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade and investment.
The Head of Government suggested that the two sides should actively coordinate to organize the 5th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee in 2023. Vietnam encourages UAE businesses and investment funds in areas of mutual interest such as energy, renewable energy, climate change response, logistics, real estate, services, infrastructure, and the construction of innovation centers; and suggested that the UAE actively support Vietnam in establishing cooperation mechanisms on certification, building inspection centers, training human resources, and investing in the production of Halal products.
In particular, the Prime Minister asked the UAE to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade to soon conclude CEPA negotiations, facilitating cooperation activities between oil and gas businesses of the two countries.
In addition, the Prime Minister also suggested that the two sides actively coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums, including strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC); suggested that the UAE consider Vietnam a bridge between the UAE and ASEAN, and the UAE a bridge for Vietnamese goods to enter the Middle East market.
Vietnam welcomes the UAE to host the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28); stands ready to cooperate with the host country UAE and other member countries of the Convention for the success of COP 28.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Prime Minister suggested that the two sides actively coordinate to organize people-to-people exchange and cultural activities, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries and promoting the development of bilateral relations in a more practical and effective manner.
Mr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for International Trade, Ministry of Foreign Trade of UAE respectfully conveyed the regards, congratulations and invitation to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit the UAE from the Prime Minister of UAE.
The Secretary of State said that the two countries have many similarities, especially in development orientation, economic scale, growth rate, and economic openness with many FTAs that have been and will be signed.
Appreciating Vietnam's development process, Mr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said that Vietnam accounts for 30% of the UAE's trade turnover with Southeast Asia.
During the Minister of State’s working trip, the UAE sent a delegation of many businesses and organizations to study and invest in Vietnam, including two large UAE investment funds. UAE organizations and businesses are interested in the fields of renewable energy development, logistics, healthcare, etc. in Vietnam.
Minister of State for International Trade, Ministry of Foreign Trade of the UAE Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi highly agreed with the opinions of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; affirmed that Vietnam is one of the important partners of the UAE; wished to continue promoting cooperation with Vietnam in labor export, digital transformation, culture, education...
Mr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said that UAE investment funds are still looking for more investment opportunities in Vietnam; UAE agencies are actively negotiating flexibly and effectively in the spirit of "win-win; harmonious benefits, shared risks" as the Prime Minister's opinion to conclude CEPA negotiations by the end of 2023.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister for his invitation to visit the UAE; and at the same time conveyed President Vo Van Thuong's invitation to visit Vietnam to the UAE President.
Through the Secretary of State, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited the UAE Prime Minister to visit Vietnam to discuss specific measures to further strengthen solidarity, friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
