Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen paid an official visit to Vietnam on December 11-12 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. This is the first time Prime Minister Hun Manet has visited Vietnam since he took office in August.

Hun Manet, 46, was the first Cambodian to graduate from the prestigious West Point Military Academy in the United States. In addition to his military education, he also studied economics and received a master's degree from New York University in 2002 and a doctorate from Bristol University in 2008. He served as Army Commander and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

Mr. Hun Manet was appointed Prime Minister by the King of Cambodia on August 7, after the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) won an overwhelming victory in the parliamentary election.

Vietnam and Cambodia established diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967. Investment and trade cooperation is a bright spot in the relationship between the two countries.

Bilateral trade turnover will reach over 10.57 billion USD in 2022, up nearly 11% compared to 2021. Two-way turnover in the first 9 months of 2023 will reach 6.5 billion USD. Vietnam is currently Cambodia's third largest trading partner and Cambodia's largest trading partner in ASEAN.

Cambodia ranks second among 79 countries and territories in which Vietnam has invested abroad.

Defense and security cooperation continues to be promoted. The two sides have completed 84% of the land border demarcation and marker planting and are striving to complete the remaining 16%.
