Prime Minister says target of 1,200 km of expressway 'reached' by 2025

TPO – Emphasizing the goal of completing about 1,200 km of additional highways by 2025, the Prime Minister requested all levels, sectors, contractors, and construction units to speed up and make breakthroughs to carry out the work.

On the morning of August 8, concluding the 13th meeting of the State Steering Committee for important national projects and works, key to the transport sector, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the goal of completing an additional 1,200 km of expressways by 2025, bringing the total length of expressways nationwide to over 3,000 km.

Due to the limited time available, the Prime Minister requested all levels, sectors, contractors and construction units to speed up and make breakthroughs to carry out the work.

Specifically, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Transport to continue directing investors and contractors to coordinate with localities to complete the North-South Expressway project in the 2021-2025 period and the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau, Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan projects in 2025 and the Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot component project 2, Ho Chi Minh road as planned...

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) presides over and coordinates with the Ministry of Transport to promptly complete procedures to submit to the National Assembly Standing Committee a Resolution adjusting the policy on changing the purpose of using forests, forest land and rice land from two or more crops of the North-South Eastern Expressway project in the 2021-2025 period; advising the Government to issue a resolution on adjusting the permitted operating time during the day for sand and gravel mining on riverbeds.

The State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises directed the Vietnam Airports Corporation and the Expressway Development Corporation to strictly control the quality and progress of airport projects and the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway; and promptly complete the pre-feasibility study report on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expansion project.

The completed highway projects have opened up new development space for localities and regions.

The Prime Minister requested the provinces of Son La, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, and Binh Duong to speed up the preparation and approval of feasibility study reports for the Hoa Binh – Moc Chau, Ninh Binh – Hai Phong (public investment section through Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh – Thai Binh section under the PPP method), and Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh projects.

Lam Dong province proactively coordinates with relevant agencies to resolve difficulties and promptly approve investment projects for the Tan Phu - Bao Loc and Bao Loc - Lien Khuong expressways.

Ho Chi Minh City urgently presides over and coordinates with relevant localities to report to competent authorities to remove difficulties and obstacles in implementing the Ring Road 4 project; proactively, resolutely, and actively deploy to put into operation the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien urban railway project on schedule.

Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong provinces urgently organized the preparation of feasibility study reports for the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh section component projects after the Government issued a Resolution to implement Resolution 138/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly. Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces coordinated with the Ministry of Transport to adjust the investment policy for the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau project.

For localities with material mines in the Southern region, the Prime Minister requested strict implementation of the Prime Minister's direction on coordinating the implementation of procedures for granting filling material mines and stone mines for projects, giving priority to the Can Tho - Ca Mau project and Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, which are scheduled to be completed in 2025.
