At the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife will pay an official visit to Vietnam from July 20-21.
Vietnam and Malaysia officially established diplomatic relations on March 30, 1973. Half a century has passed, the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries have developed positively in all fields, bringing great and practical benefits to both countries as well as contributing to building an environment of peace, stability and common prosperity in the region.
After 50 years of establishment, consolidation and development, the political and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Malaysia have continuously developed through the channels of the Party, State, Government and National Assembly. During the official visit to Malaysia by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in August 2015, the two countries agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership, creating a solid foundation for long-term and comprehensive development between the two countries.
Malaysia is one of Vietnam's 10 largest trading partners. Bilateral trade turnover has increased steadily over the years, reaching nearly 14.8 billion USD in 2022 (Vietnam exported 5.57 billion USD to Malaysia and imported 9.1 billion USD). Vietnam and Malaysia both attach great importance to further strengthening trade cooperation towards balanced and sustainable development, striving to achieve the goal of bringing bilateral trade turnover to 18 billion USD by 2025.
