On the afternoon of October 26, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Ms. Susan Pointer - Vice President of International Public Policy of Amazon Group ( USA ) who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always considers the US one of its top important partners. In the joint statement upgrading Vietnam-US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and in the meeting between the Prime Minister and US President Joe Biden in September 2023, the two sides identified economic, trade and investment cooperation as the main pillars and driving forces promoting bilateral relations, and cooperation in science, technology, digital transformation and innovation as one of the new breakthroughs. This is the foundation and great opportunity for businesses of the two countries, including Amazon, to cooperate and invest in development.
Given that Amazon has developed and has a global ecosystem, the Prime Minister suggested that Amazon share its experience with Vietnam in developing e-commerce and cross-border trade; help Vietnam train human resources in the fields of e-commerce and cloud computing; share business administration and system management science; develop logistics and optimize system operations.
In particular, Amazon supports businesses, especially Vietnamese small and medium enterprises, in digital transformation; building brands, and bringing Vietnamese goods to participate in the global supply chain.
Regarding Vietnam's inauguration of the National Innovation Center, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that Amazon advise and cooperate with Vietnam on specific projects to promote operational efficiency; as well as help Vietnam maximize its potential and strengths, overcome limitations to achieve goals in digital transformation and innovation.
The Prime Minister said that Amazon has great opportunities to develop the market in Vietnam; every year Amazon also brings more than 17 million Vietnamese products to the group's e-commerce system. However, there is still a lot of room for cooperation and development, and he suggested that Amazon continue to expand its investment and business in Vietnam and distribute more Vietnamese products and services through the group's system, contributing to bringing Vietnamese goods around the world.
The Prime Minister also asked Amazon to speak up with the US Government to soon complete the recognition of Vietnam's market economy status, creating more favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to cooperate, invest and develop.
Amazon's Vice President of International Public Policy said that he will make efforts to coordinate with Vietnamese ministries, sectors, agencies, and businesses to promote close, long-term, and effective cooperation between the two sides in the spirit of win-win.
Expressing her impression of the dynamism, creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and appreciation of the environment, potential, and investment and business opportunities in Vietnam, Ms. Susan Pointer said that Amazon will participate more deeply in the digital transformation process in Vietnam; develop e-commerce and cloud computing; raise awareness and train skills for Vietnamese workers; cooperate with a number of businesses in Vietnam to produce products and equipment and bring more Vietnamese products and services to the world; support Vietnamese startups to reach out to the world... as requested by the Prime Minister.
