Prime Minister: Great opportunity to open direct flight route Vietnam - New Zealand

(Dan Tri) - The direct flight route between Vietnam and New Zealand has been interrupted since the pandemic broke out, but with the current recovery momentum, the Prime Minister said there is a great opportunity to reopen the route to serve travel and cargo transportation.
This content was mentioned by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh when receiving Mr. Simon Bridges, Chairman of the Auckland Business Council and leaders of some typical New Zealand businesses, on the morning of March 10. Informing that New Zealand businesses are interested in Vietnam's remarkable development process over the past 20 years, Mr. Simon Bridges sees many opportunities to invest and do business in Vietnam. He said that businesses of this country have had many successful projects in Vietnam.

Appreciating the investment environment and potential in Vietnam, representatives of New Zealand businesses said they are actively working with Vietnamese ministries, branches and businesses and hope that the Government will continue to create conditions and promote businesses to invest and do business in Vietnam, especially in areas such as renewable energy, real estate, aviation, fruit and vegetable import and export, etc. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed businesses that have and are planning to invest in Vietnam. "The Vietnamese Government is committed to creating all favorable conditions, always protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of investors so that investors can invest and do business effectively and sustainably," the head of the Government affirmed. The Prime Minister commented that after nearly 50 years, the Vietnam - New Zealand relationship is developing very positively in all areas, aiming to upgrade the relationship to a new level.

The two sides have joined the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). "This is an important basis and foundation for businesses of the two countries to promote investment cooperation," the Prime Minister emphasized. The areas that New Zealand businesses are interested in and cooperate in investing in Vietnam are all priority areas and have development potential in Vietnam. The Prime Minister therefore asked New Zealand businesses to continue working with Vietnamese ministries and branches to implement specific projects. In particular, the Prime Minister noted that Vietnam is implementing energy transition and has great potential for developing wind power and solar power. Vietnam also has a need to develop many urban areas and industrial park infrastructure; has a need to import some types of agricultural and aquatic products from New Zealand and wishes to export fruits and agricultural products that New Zealand has a need for.

In the aviation sector, the Prime Minister informed about the direct flight route between the two countries being interrupted since the Covid-19 pandemic. However, currently, the socio-economic situation is on the rise, Vietnam also has more than 11,000 people working, living and studying in New Zealand, Vietnamese people love to travel to New Zealand, so the demand for travel and transporting goods will increase. "Therefore, opening a direct flight route has a great opportunity," according to the Prime Minister. He also said that the two sides will have agreements to improve visa policies to promote trade between Vietnam and New Zealand. Affirming that the room for investment and business cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand is still very large, the Prime Minister said that there needs to be high determination, great efforts, and specific solutions to promote development cooperation in the new period, first of all, overcoming the disruption of the supply chain, and soon bringing two-way trade turnover to 2 billion USD.
