On the afternoon of November 16, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City National University in 2023.
The opening ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City National University was first held in 2012, with the theme of innovation and integration of Vietnamese university education. After more than 10 years of organization, the opening ceremony has become a traditional and meaningful activity of this training unit.
In front of 600 excellent students, the Prime Minister delivered a speech on the topic "University education and its role in creating momentum for rapid and sustainable growth for the country in the new period".

After more than 28 years of construction and development, from 3 core member universities in the fields of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, and engineering and technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University has now become a center for university and postgraduate training, scientific research and technology transfer in most important fields such as: engineering and technology, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, economics-law, health sciences, pedagogy, agriculture, etc. These fields are highly appreciated by the scientific community in the world and in the country.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City National University is in the top 1,000 best universities in the world (QS World). In 2023, QS announced the results of the world university rankings in 2024, Ho Chi Minh City National University is in the group of 951-1,000 best universities in the world. Of which, 3 criteria achieved good rankings and are leading universities in Vietnam include: reputation with employers (ranked 366), graduate employment rate (ranked 386) and reputation with academic peers (ranked 524).
Ho Chi Minh City National University also leads the country in the number of internationally accredited programs. As of August 2023, Ho Chi Minh City National University has a total of 126 internationally accredited programs.
At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City National University is one of the leading units in the country in scientific publications, especially in prestigious international journals in the Web of Science and Scopus databases.
Specifically, in the period 2017-2022, Ho Chi Minh City National University published 7,881 articles in ISI/Scopus international journals; in 2022 alone, the total number of international articles published in journals and conferences in the Scopus database category reached more than 2,300 - the unit with the largest number of international publications in the country.
Also during this period, the entire Ho Chi Minh City National University implemented 6,373 science and technology service contracts with an average annual total revenue of 216 billion VND.
In the period of 2018-2022, Ho Chi Minh City National University has trained and provided Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces with more than 60,000 bachelors, engineers, doctors, masters, and PhDs. This is a team of intellectuals with good moral qualities and high professional qualifications, participating in the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the southern provinces in general.
Immediately after the opening ceremony of the 2023 class, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the delegation worked with key officials of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
