On the occasion of the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2024 of the Khmer people, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter of congratulations to the Khmer people, comrades and monks.
In the letter, the Prime Minister emphasized that the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year is a unique cultural feature of the Khmer people, the biggest festival of the year, of special significance, starting the new year with faith, aspirations, and wishes for good things, a prosperous and happy life; it is also an occasion to show filial piety and respect to ancestors.
On this occasion, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, the Prime Minister cordially sends his warmest regards, best wishes and best wishes to the Khmer people, comrades and monks.
With more than 1.3 million people, the Khmer people are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community, playing an important role in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
In the past time, the Khmer people have always believed in and strictly followed the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, joined hands and united with the people of the whole country to actively contribute to the great and comprehensive achievements and results of the country in all aspects; the Khmer ethnic minority region has made new steps of development, and the material and spiritual life of the people continues to be improved.
The Prime Minister stated that ethnic and religious affairs are strategic issues that have always received close attention and direction from the Party and State; the effective implementation of ethnic and religious policies is considered an important political and professional task of Party committees and authorities at all levels to consolidate the great national unity bloc and promote the positive and humane values of people of all ethnic groups.
From 2018 to present, ethnic work has been focused on promoting implementation with many major policies and guidelines, including Conclusion No. 65-KL/TW dated October 30, 2019 of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW of the 9th Party Central Committee on ethnic work in the new situation, Resolutions of the National Assembly, the Government, Decision of the Prime Minister on the Ethnic Work Strategy for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2045, the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030.
In particular, the Secretariat issued Directive No. 19-CT/TW dated January 10, 2018 to strengthen the direction of work in the Khmer ethnic minority area in the new situation, demonstrating the deep concern of the Party and State for ethnic minorities in general and the Khmer ethnic minority in particular.
To continue to effectively implement ethnic and religious policies associated with social security policies in the coming time, all levels, sectors and localities where Khmer people live need to be proactive, flexible, and focus on implementing solutions to support livelihood improvement, improve people's material and spiritual life, ensuring that they are appropriate to the practical situation, focusing on caring for policy beneficiaries, people with meritorious services and relatives of people with meritorious services to the revolution, poor households, and families in difficult circumstances; promoting the role of intellectuals, prestigious people, and dignitaries among Khmer people.
2024 is the year to organize the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities at district and provincial levels, a political event of important significance to summarize and evaluate ethnic work and the implementation of the 10-year periodic ethnic policy; affirm the consistent policy of our Party and State on ethnic issues and great national unity as well as the contributions of ethnic minorities in the cause of national construction and defense, creating momentum for the comprehensive development of ethnic minority areas, including the Khmer ethnic area, ensuring progress, social justice and sustainable development of the country.
With that meaning, the Prime Minister believes that Chol Chnam Thmay 2024 will bring faith and hope, create an exciting atmosphere and new motivation; believe that the Khmer people, comrades and monks will continue to promote patriotism, the tradition of solidarity and good values, the will to be self-reliant and self-reliant; promote the dignity, intelligence and unleash the creativity of each individual to join hands and unite with the people of all ethnic groups to build the homeland and country to become increasingly rich, beautiful and civilized.
The Prime Minister requested that all levels, sectors and localities prepare well for the Khmer people to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay in 2024 in solidarity, joy, health, safety, economy, in accordance with the civilized lifestyle, customs, practices and fine cultural traditions of the nation.
