Ahead of the visit, on August 26, at the 2nd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) in Singapore, the Indian delegation led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman discussed with the host country delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong on the six pillars under the ISMR framework, including digitalization, skill development, sustainability, healthcare - medicines, manufacturing and enhanced connectivity.
After his visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Modi will visit Brunei Darussalam.
Previously, Prime Minister Modi and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah first met on the sidelines of the 25th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar) in November 2014 and the second meeting took place on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in November 2017 in Manila (Philippines).
An important component of the India-Brunei relationship is defence, with naval ships from the two countries visiting each other.
