The rice paper production facility of Ms. Le Thi Dung in Binh village, Thach Hung commune has been producing since the 4th day of Tet until now.
Starting from the morning of the 4th day of Tet, the rice paper production facility of Ms. Le Thi Dung (Binh village, Thach Hung commune) started a new production season. On average, the facility produces about 350 kg of rice per day. In addition to family labor, 5 workers also enter a busy workday from 5am to 6pm every day.
Ms. Le Thi Dung shared: “Before and after Tet is the peak time for rice paper production. This year, from the second day of Tet, many agents called to place orders, so we produced early. At the beginning of the year, having orders and being busy with work is a happiness for us. The rice paper production season is busy until the end of February (lunar calendar)”.
Not only Ms. Dung's family, at this time, many families in the "capital" of rice paper production in Binh village, Thach Hung commune (Ha Tinh city) have started the 2024 production season.
Workers at Ms. Dang Thi Minh's rice paper production facility (Binh village, Thach Hung commune) are busy removing the rice paper.
Ms. Dang Thi Minh (Binh village, Thach Hung commune) shared: “I started lighting the rice paper oven on the morning of the 8th day of Tet. On average, my family produces 160,000 kg of rice per day, producing over 20,000 rice cakes. Before Tet, the price of rice cakes was about 20,000 VND/bundle, after Tet it was from 16,000 to 18,000 VND/bundle. With this price, on average, my family earns 3 - 4 million VND per day, after deducting expenses, the profit is from 800 - 1 million VND/day”.
Making rice paper is a traditional occupation of the people of Binh village. This is the first locality in Ha Tinh province to be recognized by the province and issued a plan to preserve and develop the traditional rice paper craft village. From Binh village, currently, other villages in Thach Hung commune (Ha Tinh city) all have households participating in rice paper production.
Thach Hung rice paper has labels and is packaged according to food hygiene and safety standards.
According to statistics, the whole Thach Hung commune (Ha Tinh city) currently has more than 120 households producing rice paper; of which Binh village accounts for more than 90 households. Previously, households produced by hand, but in the past ten years, people have switched to making rice paper by machine, thanks to which productivity has increased and the rice paper is more uniform. The rice paper making profession in Thach Hung commune is creating jobs for more than 200 local workers. Revenue from rice paper production in the whole commune reaches more than 31 billion VND/year.
Ms. Pham Thi Ha - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Hung Commune said: "In recent years, the rice paper production profession has created jobs and brought relatively high income to local people. In the coming time, implementing the plan to preserve and develop the craft village recognized by Ha Tinh province, we will rearrange the traditional craft village in the direction of forming value chains from raw material areas, production, to product consumption. In addition, the locality will develop a trade promotion plan, develop raw material areas, build brands, geographical indications to create products and industries with high competitiveness in the market; focus on building a process to ensure food hygiene and safety, environmental hygiene; move towards building local OCOP products".
Making rice paper is a traditional family profession of the people of Thach Hung commune.
With the early start of the 2024 production season, rice paper makers in Thach Hung commune (Ha Tinh city) are hoping for a successful year, bringing the craft village further and further in association with the local socio-economic development; while preserving the traditional flavors of their homeland.
