“We love Vietnam. Russia loves Vietnam very much. We preserve the deep historical tradition of friendship between the two peoples. Vietnam is our closest and most reliable partner in Asia.”
This was the affirmation of Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov in an interview with Nhan Dan Newspaper's correspondent in Russia on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Russian Federation relations (January 30, 1950 - January 30, 2025).

Contrary to what I thought and imagined about Mr. Dmitry Peskov with his image in the media, he is a tall man with a serious face, but when I met and interacted with him, I was very surprised by his care and sincerity.
At the beginning of the conversation, Mr. Dmitry Peskov happily and kindly asked us: "Have you been in Moscow for a long time? Perhaps, you have had very interesting experiences in Russia, with a lot of work?".
Just one or two of his questions cleared up the tension between us, which I had the feeling that it would be difficult to start a conversation with a man who often, on behalf of the head of the Russian state, makes strong, tough statements to the press about current issues related to the interests of the Russian people.
Continuing the story, Mr. Peskov emphasized that Moscow attaches importance to its relations with Vietnam. Since 2012, the relationship between the two countries has been upgraded to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and in fact, this has said a lot. First of all, it is the atmosphere of trust between the two countries, a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation.

According to Mr. Peskov, regarding political dialogue and coordination in the international arena. Although there is pressure from outside, the two countries always show themselves as sovereign and independent nations, which is necessary to confidently continue developing cooperation.
President Putin's press secretary affirmed that this is what the two sides are and will continue to promote. It is true. At both working, high-level and top-level levels, the dialogue between the two countries is constantly developing. This is the key to the dynamic, positive development at a high level in bilateral relations.
Here, it is worth mentioning President Putin's state visit to Vietnam last summer. Also in 2024, Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Tran Thanh Man paid an official visit to Russia. This was a visit that brought many practical results and Russia highly appreciated this visit. In Kazan, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, President Putin held talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. And most recently, there was the official visit of Russian Prime Minister Mishustin to Vietnam.
During the talks and meetings, the leaders of the two countries discussed and resolved existing problems and obstacles in a constructive spirit and found common solutions. This is a very effective way to promote bilateral relations and the political will to develop dialogue has always been affirmed by both sides.
Moscow is currently looking forward to General Secretary To Lam's visit to Russia on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Vietnam always shares with Russia the memory and significance of this victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Russian people are always grateful for this.
The Kremlin spokesman said that Vietnam has made great strides in socio-economic development. GDP per capita has increased dozens of times since 1991.
This is an extraordinary leap. Vietnam has literally built up entire sectors of the national economy from scratch. Vietnam has become a country that is completely self-sufficient in agriculture, but has also become an exporting country.
Vietnam is developing advanced technology industries. Russia is pleased to cooperate with Vietnam in implementing the project of building a Center for Nuclear Science and Technology Research. This is a large-scale project aimed at developing an important industry, a high-tech industry such as peaceful nuclear energy and nuclear research.
This project can become an important driving force to bring Vietnam to a new level of development. Russia highly appreciates Vietnam's successes and expects to remain an important partner of Vietnam in economic and trade cooperation.
Although the conversation with the Kremlin spokesman was not long, the issues he conveyed always carried expectations, including how to promote the relationship between the two countries to become more substantial and effective.
On the occasion of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, Mr. Peskov wished all Vietnamese people a peaceful, happy and prosperous new year.
