The person that the students reported is Pham Thanh Danh (accounting student, class 12, 2023) who was honored by Van Lang University as the valedictorian of the master's degree at the recent graduation ceremony.
Master's degree in 10 months?
According to the students, on February 11, 2023, the principal of Van Lang University signed a decision to recognize admission for students admitted to the third master's entrance exam in 2022.
According to the admission list attached to the above decision, there are a total of 120 students, including student Pham Thanh Danh (born in 1985) majoring in accounting.
On December 5, 2023, the President of Van Lang University signed decisions to establish a council to evaluate the master's thesis in accounting - course 11 of students: Tran Thi Huong Nhi, Pham Thanh Danh and Le Nguyen Quynh Nhu. Meanwhile, student Pham Thanh Danh enrolled in course 12 in 2023.
Also on December 5, 2023, Dr. Nguyen Quynh Mai - Dean of the Graduate School of Van Lang University sent an invitation letter to students to attend the master's thesis defense council in accounting.
The project defense council will take place at 12:30 p.m. on December 15, 2023.
The master's projects evaluated included 6 students, including student Pham Thanh Danh with the topic "Factors affecting the quality of financial reporting information of real estate enterprises listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange".
"Thus, the total training time is less than 10 months, but student Pham Thanh Danh was announced as the valedictorian of the master's degree at the graduation ceremony. While according to the school's regulations and master's training regulations, the minimum training time is 18 months," the group of students reflected.
According to the students, information from the Graduate Institute of Van Lang University has decided to establish a project evaluation board to change the date to May 25, 2024 and the defense date to June 1, 2024 for student Danh and other students, while they defended on December 15, 2023.
"We are very upset about the above situation. Why is the training period of only nearly 10 months but we are honored as valedictorians like that?" said a student.
Students have taken some modules of the master's program in advance.
Talking to Tuoi Tre Online about this, a representative of Van Lang University confirmed that student Pham Thanh Danh has officially decided to enter the school's master's program in accounting in February 2023.
"However, before officially starting school in February 2023, student Danh registered to study some modules of the master's program in accounting from January 2022. This student defended his master's thesis in December 2023. Thus, student Pham Thanh Danh's total study time is 23 months," he said.
Further explaining the reason why this student was allowed to study some modules of the master's training program in advance before being admitted, the leader of Van Lang University said: "Clause 2, Article 4 of Circular 23/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulates the pre-study of the master's training program.
Accordingly, students studying a university training program (or equivalent level or higher), with a cumulative average grade of good or higher and other conditions prescribed by the training institution, can register to study in advance some modules of the master's training program at the same training institution. The number of recognized credits shall not exceed 15 credits".
How long is the master's training period?
Regarding master's training time according to Circular 23/2021/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated that for each form of training, the training institution provides a standard full-course study plan for each training program to guide students.
The time according to the standard full-course study plan must be consistent with the time prescribed in the framework of the national education system, while ensuring that the majority of students complete the training program.
According to Decision 1981/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the framework of the national education system, master's degree training programs accept university graduates, the master's degree training time is equivalent to 1 to 2 years of concentrated study depending on the requirements of the training sector.
